  3. Hi Deshawn,

It's Jenny. I have adult female Thistle, Budwing (one leg is missing but good shape otherwise), Spiny, Mega (but her raptors are messed up from a brawl). I have males too of different soecies. I have to check to see who is available that isn't breeding.

Haaaa im so confused now. I dont think our thoughts are synced up. The two ooths you sent are bleph and gongy. The bleph is still cooking.

My spiny has produced two oothecae and the first ooth is the one that dropped only one nymph.

That was yesterday. Is that all I can expect, or do spinys hatch across days.

And yeh, your gongy ooths are "the bomb". Lots of babies. TY.

    3. Jaywo

      Jaywo

Ah yes, we were on different pages. I think the spinys can drop in a few days.

@Jaywo cool thanks. I took the lone 'scout' to its own cup for feeding. Maybe we'll have a few more drop. I'll look to the second, and any subsequent ooths for more babies though. I just wouldve expected way more on the first day. None yesterday. :)

  5. Maybe I'm embarrassed to ask. Yet here I am. How long do male adult ghosts live? How long to incubate ghost ooths?

    1. MantisGirl13

      MantisGirl13

Male  ghosts live 1-2 months. Ooths incubate for a month.

The popas are the ones im worried about. The idolos and blephs are well fed, and dont need much water. I may be okay then?

Im the double posting king. LoL.

      Thanks @MantisGirl13.

As I walked in the house Friday evening, Caleb was scanning my person for a shipping box. Poor kid.

  17. I was planning to mate my green female ghost this afternoon, but I got back from grocery shopping and she had laid me a nice big infertile ooth.

So I decided to see if my male would be interested in my big dark female. Sure enough, after three hours of fooling around on her back, Pumpkin the male decided to make the connection!!!!!

This is the first ghost mating of the season for me, but not the last! I have three other females waiting for their turn.

Thanks! It's kind of bittersweet because the female decided she was hungry and took it out on the male. I'm pretty sure it was successful, but now I have to wait for my other subadult males to mature before I can mate my other girls. And anyone who's kept ghosts knows how painfully slow the males mature!

Lucky. I have just one each illudens and paradoxa females.

By old identification standards, I was informed illudens and paradoxa are synonyms. Whatevz. Ill keep them separate.

Whole whack of males tho. Two subs that just dont wanna molt too. 🙄

    4. MantisGirl13

      MantisGirl13

I don't believe that illudens and paradoxa are synonyms because the female's crown looks so different.

Male ghosts often look like that. Color can't be passed down through genetics that I know of. I think that color is pretty much random in the individuals.

  19. I’ve been gone for a minute but I’m excited to share, I totally sold out of my Chinese mantid hatch! The best part was how many went to classrooms 👍 my local school district bought up most of them! Today we FINALLY had a male Spiny Flower molt into adulthood (my purchased nymph males turned out to be females) and we’re very excited to pair him with Latte....as soon as we find her lol she’s MIA in the house but she’ll fly to one of our shoulders if she gets too thirsty or hungry. Poor Fabio (the adult male spiny) has too many girlfriends 🤞 Leafy (female ghost mantis) molted into adulthood while I was gone too but her boyfriend is woefully behind....wish he would hurry up already lol Leafy likes to leave her plant and hang under the piano these days lol Happy (adult female spiny flower) prefers Fortnite music 😂. Lastly, we lost Buggy (adult female spiny) she was getting older but not elderly yet...I think she got too hot it was over 90 outside the day we lost her and we don’t have AC it was definitely stuffy in the house. I’m looking forward to catching up on everyone’s posts until I can get a hatch out of these spinys👍

  20. Wow. rainbowmealworms.net.

Ordered 1250 BBF spikes. Three of five zippies weren't sealed right. Im down 451 spikes. This is the second time zippies werent sealed.

Not impressed when I have to pay FedEx shipping on top of the price for the spikes.

I will today. That's an outrageous loss. I mean, they ship spikes in zippies, then place those into stapled-shut insulated envelopes with gel packs, then place those in a box.

Where'd the spikes go? They never made it to the insulated packs in the first place. Can't even blame handling.

    4. hysteresis

      hysteresis

@MantisGirl13 they credited me 500 spikes. It doesnt cover the extra shipping cost (Incredible. Each additional zippy of 250 spikes adds approx $6USD) but I'll take it.

  21. I go away for a few days and leave most of the mantids behind. I had only one casualty, but it was the most devastating one. My female orchid. I now have no orchids and I guess I'll have to start from scratch again with this species as older nymphs are too expensive for me. It's a shame.

He's still on her back with his wiener still hooked around. Maybe they'll go again. Shes not agitated, and well fed tonight.

Idols got a black eye   Ive see the black  spotting on the eye before with Hierodula which seems like a common problem. , Ive heard that it may be due to caging but wild specimens have it also, yes Orin and Yen!  Maybe she will  recover on the next moult,  Fingers crossed/
