It's kinda old stuff but still impressive. Personally I find more amazing the mantis killing a mouse. Video is easily found on Youtube and it passed through this forum already, I guess

Dominating, I love the mantis in your profile picture, mind if i ask what it is?
It's a male Mantis Religiosa. Pretty much 99% of all mantis species I ever kept.

Edit: Here's the full pic and another

I called him 'pretty eyes' for obvious reasons :p

There's a couple gnarly videos of this floating around. Theoretically you could feed a mantis a live pinkie (baby mouse) but it seems rather incorrect to do so from a moral standpoint. I have fed

a deceased pinkie to a mantis and she did indeed eat it so it is possible but I wont be pursuing that line any further.

Yeah, mantises are cool because they are the only insect that can prey on mammals solo. Also, aesculpius, how would feeding a mantis a baby mouse to be sad from a moral standpoint? People feed mice to animals, like snakes, all the time. How is it any different from feeding a mantis a cute insect? It is cute, yet you feed you mantis insects regularly. Next time you feel like feeding mice to a mantis is a moral standpoint remember how much of a pest mice are around the world.

See? Next time think of these articles when you think feeding mice is wrong. It is exactly like feeding a cute cricket to a mantis.

I have a feeling they were referring to is about feeding it while it is still alive. Mantises eat their food very slowly and don't pre-kill their food. For a vertebrate with a nervous system that would be very torturous.

^^^ nailed it.

A cricket, no matter how cute, has no central nervous system. And so, while it may be aware that it's stopped moving and things are not working properly, it doesn't have the capacity to feel nor consider pain. A mouse, on the other hand, most certainly can :(

It's got little to do with how cute the animal is. If I was assured mice and geckos didn't feel pain by our definition of the word, it'd be no issue.

Oh, kk, then aesculpius should have been more clear about his reasoning then just cuteness. I understand now.
