African Mantis?

I was told my new mantis was the largest mantis, an African mantis. Does anyone know the scientific name?

There are a lot of African mantid species. Show us what it looks like and some of us might be able to help.

As was mentioned, many species from Africa. The most common one that is called "African mantis" is in the genus Sphodromantis. There are at least a couple species in that genus that have been in the hobby; lineola/centralia/viridis.

The woman also said it was going to be very colorful? Maybe viridis?

When I had them they were normally green or brown.

Just called them...swore they said African when I bought it, but today they are saying it is a Giant Asiatic. <shrugs>
