Single Status Update
I MEANT TO POST THIS BEFORE BUT DIDN'T SEND IT.
UPDATE: I've found that keeping the pupae a bit humid helps them out. I've had four BBF eclose since yesterday.
First time since getting the spikes. It's be weird. If things go right with light mistings, I expect flies.
I also have a test set where pupae will sit in a pinch of coco soil to retain a bit of moisture. Kevin from Moonlight Mantids made a video where his pupae are clearly seen sitting in some grain or whatever. He lightly mists them until they eclose.
Two weeks and only 2 BBF, both gimps. 😏
Someone else in Mantis Keepers on FB said their rainbowmealworms BBF spikes were easy to pupate but long to eclose. Took hers two weeks. Mine just hit two weeks.
Do these look bad?
The pupae are dark. Something inside.
Im getting 3 or 4 per day from my 2ndish batch.
Zero from the first which has to be ~3 wks since pupation.
I think they need more moisture than initially provided during and right after pupation. Seems a moistened cotton pad not in contact with, helps. It must be too dry for them to eclose properly.
Kevin Young / Moonlight posted a BBF care video where his pupa are in some sort of grain media he lightly oversprays.
My middle batch / moistened is producing a few.
I have new batches that are pupating slightly warmed and a bit humid. Hopefully those pop.
