  2. Its the return of the gracilis, had a pair molt to adult,so they are added back to my 2014 breeding list, waiting on popas, budwings, and maybe creos,in the mean time

  3. Or not on the orchids,I think we were mantis scammed, again. Beware of mantis frauds, there seems to be a lot of them this year

Ugh... That really sucks... I don't get involved in mantid trading, etc. for that reason. Sorry to hear it happened to you... :(

  4. Added a jackson's Chameleon to the collection, now its back to tons of baby mantids, just not the ones I want lol :(

Yeah, that's the reason why I don't ever plan on breeding my exotics. Only the natives. That way if I get an excess I can just release them. I don't want to have 500 baby ghosts to get rid of!

Yay! I tried to make a chocolate cake about 6 months ago, but I used like the hardest recipe around and ended up needing my mom to help me...

Try using the vanilla extract I used when baking my mom a cake for mother's day. It expired in '07. That was...interesting....

  7. I have way too many mantids and Eibhleann died today. If you think you have problems, try living my life... :( On the bright side, Maolseachlann molted to L4.

Oh, yeah, and I caught two S. limbata females last night.

  9. Sub-adult female molted this morning. Now have two lovely M Religiosa ladies in their finest draperies.

Congratulations! (And congratulations on getting your parents to let you have more than one) :D I just caught a female M religiosa last night! I still haven't named her. Have you named yours?

  10. I'm wondering why I'm only finding male mantids outside. I've caught seven males in the last week and seen several more. Only one female though...

      MandellaMandy123

Hmm... Maybe there are just a lot of males this year for some reason. I'm going to go on a mantis hunt tonight. There are a lot of what I call "Praying mantis weeds" about two miles from our house. Wish me luck! :)

  11. Nymph took down first wild prey while free-ranging today!

      MandellaMandy123

Lol my mom has tried to limit me before but after enough time of me begging her not to she's given in. When I was little she wouldn't even let me hold them in the house because they escaped too often!

  12. Oh where, oh where has my nymph-y gone? Oh where, oh where can he be? He escaped from his cage into the house - oh where, oh where can he be???

    1. MandellaMandy123

      MandellaMandy123

Oh, don't you hate it when that happens! I just lost one of my wild-caughts outside yesterday. But I lose them in the house much too often...

My light is a Joby Gorillatorch Flare125. It wasn't originally meant for photography, but It works great for mantis photography since the bendable legs allow you to attach it to anything or position it on just the right angle on the floor.

Oh, that's too bad :( I have a portable light that I use for my photos - it's not that expensive and it works really well. I'll have to look at the brand name. I can't remember right now.

  21. The L1 days are here. The house is cluttered with totes, jars, and anything else that can be converted into a makeshift home (I'm getting deli cups tomorrow). I walked over to get the scissors to cut off some mesh for the top of one of the jars and one of Deirdre's little babies was sitting there looking for me. A couple of hours later I was working on my meteorology report when I saw an L1 on the ceiling. I had to stand on the desk to reach her. And I'm expecting more of Ail...
