    Tenodera ootheca in the wild

    From the album: Tenodera sinensis

most likely sinensis i was actually at this very spot looking for oothecae. right in the sun, on the outskirts of the woods, as i was in a field, there it was! then i found another, and another, all within five feet of each other. after collecting three i decided that was enough! they all look as if they hadnt hatched. the front is smooth, you know how after they hatch there are sort of ridges? they also have strings and exuviae hanging down after hatching but those are really easy to brush off, the wind could have done that easily so i dont go by whether or not the strings are attached. where there are females there are usually males, so i imagine these three will be hatching. no way to know for sure at the moment, just gonna incubate them and wait and see. ill sell some, keep some, release the rest back in this very spot. we moved, and this spot is only four minutes from our new house.

  5. Tenodera sinensis molting schedule (rounded about): L1-L2: 1 week L2-L3: 1 1/2 weeks L3-L4: 2 weeks L4-L5: 2 weeks L5-L6: 2 weeks L6-L7: 2 weeks L7-L8: 2 weeks Tenodera angustipennis molting schedule (rounded about): L1-L2: 1 week L2-L3: 1 1/2 weeks L3-L4: 2 weeks L4-L5: 2 weeks L5-L6: 2 weeks L6-L7: 2 weeks L7-L8: 2 weeks This species is of the same genus so their molting schedules are pratically exact. Basically, once L3, they molt twice a month.
