There always seem to be someone trying to blame mantids or enthusiasts through political posturing rather than science. If anyone has read the 80s study and follow-ups meant to prove mantodean limits in pest control they would know it was severely flawed and later debunked by its own author. Nevertheless, it is quoted as scripture to discredit the value of mantodea in pest control. The main mantodea page on wiki treats a pamphlet that indirectly quotes that study as the only source of evidence and as proof. There is no effort made to quote a source for the support of mantis pest control prowess.
I just noticed under Miomantis on wiki both the caffra and paykulli pages have this flawed sentence pasted into the intro (little effort was made as both pages say cafra):
"This species was discovered recently in Portugal, together with Miomantis caffra, the trade of exotic species, is the cause of many ecosystems are affected, by the introduction of invasive species or by the collection of animals in their natural habitat.
There is no reference to show either species was actually found there or established . Whatever was found could have been a native species misidentified as happens very often. Even if it were found there, most introductions so far have been traced back to the trade in landscape plants. Someone with an agenda inserted this poorly constructed sentence. If you are a wiki editor please consider editing these examples.
