    Rhombodera Megaera and water consumption

Hi guys 👋  I hope everyone is doing well and having a wonderful day so far!    I have a random question- I have one L4 rhombodera and 5 (L4 as well now) Tenodera Sinensis. The Chinese mantises almost always drink the water droplets that I spray daily. I know that the rhombodera needs a bit...

blue bottlefly pupa getting stuck when emerging

I noticed this happen with my house fly larvae- I’ve had a few emerge and there was one still halfway stuck inside the pupae. I do have a small piece of damp paper towel in with them. Does this just happen sometimes? Three hatched fine, one is stuck, and two others have yet to hatch.

    Mantis Handling and Taming!

@MrGhostMantis I kinda thought that may be the case but wasn’t sure if anyone had been able to get them more ‘comfortable’ being handled.    Also, why do you say the rhombodera is male? Just curious! I had previously posted an abdomen shot, and only count six total segments. Here’s a better...

    Mantis Handling and Taming!

Thank you @hibiscusmile for consistently answering questions for everyone!! Super awesome of you, for real! 🙏 I have actually been bringing her over and letting her sit with me during the day while I’m working (still on that pandemic work-from-home life!). Right now, she’s just chillin &amp...

    Mantis Handling and Taming!

Hi All!!    I got another Q for y’all... What do you guys do to ‘tame’ your mantises and get them used to being handled?? My Tenodera Sinensis nymphs seem to be getting more skittish with each molt. I just want to make it so they’re not super stressed each time. I prefer to feed them in...

    L3 Chinese Nymph Feeding Q!

@hibiscusmile thank you for the reply! I figure as much but just thought I would double check. It’s nice to have this forum around for answers to certain questions!!    I am located on the California central coast- in Monterey. We’ve had weather in the high 50’s to the low 70’s. I was...

    L3 Chinese Nymph Feeding Q!

Hello fellow mantis lovers!! 👋  We had a cpl molts last night in two of my Tenodera Sinensis! Super exciting, as I was not expecting them to molt. They have been taking food, so I was not expecting a molt today!    question tho! They are now at an L3. I have a large amount of fruit flies (one...

Unsure if this is normal or not?!

@hibiscusmile here is the best abdomen pic I could get! ‘She’ just finished a small waxworm (I’m aware these are not an ideal meal, but my house flies are held up in shipping until tomorrow and I wanted to feed something besides the fruit flies!). Let me know if you think it’s a female as well-...

Unsure if this is normal or not?!

I will also attempt to get a better pic of her abdomen. I can only count six segments (which is why I think it’s a girl), but have been told it’s still too early to tell, but also that some people CAN tell at this stage! haha

Unsure if this is normal or not?!

Thank you so much for the response @hibiscusmile 😊 I figured after keeping an eye on her that she was fine, but I still wanted a bit of reassurance from someone more experienced! I had actually ordered some house fly larvae that were held up at one shipping location for a cpl days but should...

Unsure if this is normal or not?!

Hi guys...I have a question and hopefully someone can help me out! I am hoping that I’m just overreacting, but I noticed my rhombodera megaera hanging out on one of the leaves she likes in her enclosure. She was there for a while, which was normal, but I noticed after a while she was laying...

    Feeding Question!!

@hibiscusmile thank you so much for the response!! I wasn’t sure and couldn’t find any good information on how much they should be eating at this stage. It’s good to know how much I should be feeding! She LOVES to eat haha I feel like she could put down 30 fruit flies no problem (but I won’t let...

    Nice to Meet Everyone!!

@MantisGirl13 thank you! I had heard that as well, but then also heard that you can tell a bit earlier with the larger mantis species. I figured I would have to wait!! I’m just impatient 🤣

    Feeding Question!!

Hi everyone!!    I gotta quick feeding question about my freshly molted L3 rhombodera megaera... As of right now, I still only have fruit flies. I have an order of house fly larvae coming, but have plenty of fruit flies at the moment.    My question is this- how many fruit flies is too...
