    Near Adult Rhombodera Pair

Just moved the female into a larger screened enclosure with plants, which is kept outside. Misting a few times per day. She seems happy, as judged by her looks, energy level, and appetite. Updated pics soon.

    Near Adult Rhombodera Pair

Mantids are getting quite big now. First time keeping these, are they close to adult/breeding size? Sorry for pic quality, will post better soon.

Who likes the Peruvian leaf mantises (Pseudoxyops perpulchra)?

Peruvian leaf mantis is super cool! Movements appear to mimic a leaf blowing in the wind, before it pounces!

This Hasn't Happened in 17 Years

The last time these 2 broods emerged at the same time, Thomas Jefferson was president of the US. Hundreds of years. It will be mayhem. Good luck!

    Mismolting

"Old mantis sitter" lol; either they were fired, retired, or something happened to them. Glad your ghost is doing better, she is a beauty! Great topic, hope to learn more and share. Keeping our mantids outside on a covered porch, in enclosures. Since outdoor humidity is higher than indoors...

    Chatting with AI about mantids.

I agree, AI art should be identified as such. Ideally, AI works in support of workers, as a collaborative tool. Asked ChatGPT about mango cultivars. It was not up to date. I taught it a bit, wonder if the next person gets a more informed AI?

I was afraid the youth of today had begun smoking and vaping mantid ooths; happy you are just poking around with a flashlight.

    Field trip bust

Not sure about your part of FL, but it has been dry here most of the year. We did get a bit of rain yesterday, but April has been mostly rain free. Flowers aren't blooming much yet. Does rainfall effect timing of ooth hatching?
