    New one...

Hello Nicolas and welcome to the forum I don't know of any specific species in your area, but wish you well and I'm interested to see what you'll find. :)

    Tape saved my mantis!

Congrats, I'm glad to hear you were able to save your mantis! :D I'll have to add your story link too next time to the tape saving, and mis-molt help posts.  ;)

    culturing blue bottle flies

@Ramona A quick answer is no one cultures bottle flies/blowflies ( just Melanogaster and Hydei fruit fly species primarily), and we simply buy fly pupae online. A few have had limited success culturing bottle flies but was not repeatable by them, or anyone who tried. Houseflies are said to be...

    Thirsty

@DefyTheNorms Glad to hear you were able to save her.  Sounds like a heat pack would have been ideal on your arm muscles after that. Hopefully she learned a lesson and won't do it again too.

    Hello from Texas!

Hello Annie and welcome to the forum Ghosts are great, I've had several through the years. As you already found the caresheets you are good to go. Just ask any questions if they arise, and have fun. :D

    Pics of Your Enclosure

@ky_mantis For years the recommended daytime heat recommended method would be a standard incandescent bulb in a clip gooseneck lamp or swing arm lamp. As the 100w bulbs put out plenty of heat (up to 335F) and the lamp could be adjusted further away from the habitat for the proper temperature. I...

What can I do to improve this mesh lid on my new vivarium?

Your more than welcome. I had some time and figured it would be the most help. Best of luck on your project, and let me know how it turns out for Daisy. :D

    Prohierodula picta chewing her feet?

@solaris The issue tends to be one of a few things for them to do that, and sadly little can be done in most cases to help them. It tends to affect adult mantids most commonly, and they require special or direct hand feeding as they can no longer capture prey themselves - as you are doing now...

    Pics of Your Enclosure

Some great looking setups to be sure. :D @ky_mantis I love the bamboo, it looks great! It also solves the problems with excess moisture/humidity from a vivarium setup with fake plants, and mismolts from angled sticks due to the nearly vertical bamboo. I'll have to try that myself as it looks...

Hello and welcome to the forum Great to see your girl. :) Do you plan on finding her a mate?

How many fruit flies for L3 ghosts?

Yes, even if they receive the same care/temps/feeder amount/etc nymphs that hatched together can vary in instar up to two full molts (I've had it happen with a female). Usually though they are within a few days to week though in molting together. Just one really, don't sweat the small things...

    Galinthias amoena for the win!!

If there are a lot of things for nymphs to hide on/under/or in, it can be. For me it happened twice on my clustered desk and spread nearby to the window curtains so those were worse than the other ooth that was near a wall. On the wall they loved to scatter out and stay put, making it relatively...

    Galinthias amoena for the win!!

Sounds like you both have experience with the species and could put together a dedicated caresheet for the species - it would be great for keepers. If either of you are interested see the rules and template. @mantisloverguy6000 Sweet! I love the small species, glad to hear they are doing great...

What can I do to improve this mesh lid on my new vivarium?

@FluffyMantid Glad to see someone has seen my guide, and a first someone recommended it besides me. ;) @MajorManny My DIY tutorial works on any size container, not sure how size has a bearing on it. Personally I've done 4' long tubs with the same instructions and materials for my cricket...

How many fruit flies for L3 ghosts?

@Predatorhousepet Indeed as Rick wrote simply watching the abdomen size is the best way to feed. There really is no set feeder species amount to mantid instar level, too many variables that can not account for everything. The abdomen is the only optimal feeding method to ensure they are eating...

    Urgent! Stickbug hatched in winter!

Your welcome, it happens to us all at some point it seems, rather it be a "old" mantid ooth or whatever. ;) For the Northern walkingstick (Diapheromera fermorata) their native food sources are Black Oak, White Oak, Willow Oak, Black Locust, Virginia Rose, Sassafras, Black Cherry, Red Clover...

    Acanthops Erosula

Haha, your right Google images pulls many up. ;) I switched over to DuckDuckGo to avoid the excessive tracking of Google months ago, and haven't noticed any real changes compared to Google until now. Seems for images I'll have to pull up Google if I am not having any luck. The species is...

    Cameras/photography

@izbiggs I moved your post to the Photography, Equipment, Tips, Q&A for more responses. Also take a look at the section as many things have been discussed before regarding basic use/tips/etc related to mantids in particular. If you have any specific questions just ask. Overall I'd say get a...

    Pet store feeder woes

You may want to send some PMs to members if you have questions, and don't get a response here. I haven't tried them yet, but is on my list of things to do. There are several members lately who have been using BSF's though... Your welcome and best of luck. :)

    p medioconstricta (new camera)

A 3-D camera with some huge lenses then, nice. :D I just wanted to make sure, with some rather strange species showing up lately I thought it might have been something else. Sweet! Nothing like having a DSLR, and getting lost in all the options. If a macro lens is out of your budget you can...
