    Feeder Sustainability

@Roaming For house and bottle flies there is no option for culturing indoors really, and has been discussed multiple times, see my recent post and links... Besides buying the pupae as needed for feeders, when possible catching flies outdoors is a good option and one I do when weather...

    Substrate Woes

@Predatorhousepet Best of luck, and hopefully you get the problem resolved. Indeed it could be a problem lately due to a wild population recently taking hold, or a built-up to the point it is a problem in the air.

    Light timing

@Predatorhousepet Sounds like most I imagine. Waiting for the "sun" to get turned on each day for it to be late or early several hours (and off varying) has got to be outright strange though. :) Great to hear and sounds nice. With being WIFI if you ever wanted to get fancy you could run a...

    Light timing

@Predatorhousepet I set mine for 14 hours of lights on for the typical light cycle of late spring/summer, and is found to be the optimal amount for culturing feeders (such as crickets) too. Also you can use a small nightlight for use as moonlight for your pets. See the posts in the thread below...

    Mites(??) in substrate

That is good to hear, and hopefully they will be eradicated. :) One trick besides the mite paper mentioned is to keep your cultures in pans of shallow water. While most do it for fruit fly cultures (which can develop mite problems especially near the end of their cycle) it can work for small...

    Substrate Woes

@Predatorhousepet That is a amazing bloom of mold, and that quickly sounds suspect. I see you did try another brick with the same results, which would have been my first suggestion. Regarding if it is mold or fungus, see here for details. Coconut is the substrate of choice for being the most...

    New to mantids

Hello Cheri and welcome to the forum Here is the caresheet for the Orchid mantis (Hymenopus coronatus). It's husbandry care is listed as intermediate care, which isn't suited for beginners but doesn't deter all new keepers.

    New project on way!

Fruit flies are only appropriate sized feeders for L1 and L2 mantid instars typically, unless you have a tiny mantid species (but even then most prefer much larger prey too). Ghosts (Phyllocrania paradoxa) are ready for houseflies at L3, see caresheet. While Creobroter gemmatus, "is very...

    Mites(??) in substrate

@Predatorhousepet The videos confirm it is a mite after all. After digging around online it appears to possibly be Acarus siro, compare the photo here to what you have. The mite prefers moist substrate, and "These mites live in various habitats (including bee nests), where they feed on...

    Mites(??) in substrate

@Predatorhousepet Doesn't look like any form of mites, but some larvae or eggs. As you are using flies for feeders those could be newly hatched fly larvae. Did you record a video before disposing of them? I ask as their movement could help in a proper ID of them. You did not mention if they...

    One year today! :D

Congrats, and hopefully it will be a lifelong love of the hobby and pets. :D It's great to hear how big of a impact a insect makes, at least besides the negative ones labelled pests. ;)

    Ooth is hatching!

Congrats on the hatch. :D Although searching for the name given on Instagram leads to a private and blocked account, so nothing to see. Anyone actually see anything?

    Water

Your welcome, and glad to hear you prefer spotless habitats too. ;) In that aspect your better off, with the glass in your Exo Terra tanks it will come clean. Any plastic tanks if overly spotted take some effort to remove and can result in a scoured plastic cloudy appearance, which is...
