    Hello from Wisconsin

When I first joined this forum, I read all I could about ghosts. I wanted orchids and ghosts. Wanted to get to communal setup with the ghosts. I never got that far with the ghosts. Yes I remember reading that also. Why I recommended keeping one or two males separate, just in case. Must say I...

    USDA Review

So in Wi. you need a lic to breed native mantis or is that breeding imported?  Imported across state lines or from outside the country?  Interesting. Pass enough laws and we are all criminals any time they want to make us so.

    APHIS Petition?

Is it possible ----anything is possible. Would I sign a petition to a regulatory agency --- not unless my life depended on it and then with reservations. Often you get the opposite of what you are looking for when dealing with regulators. Take a look at the tropical fish industry and what the...

    Made it to l3!

I found as the mantis got closer to adult, the molts and recovery took longer to complete.  They will eat when ready after molt. Could be a day or much longer. First male ghost to adult would drink after 2 days. Was over a week before he took food. And yes that did worry me at the time. Now I...

    Hello from Wisconsin

Ghosts are great. As to communal keeping, I would set aside a male or 2 for separate raising soon as you identify ***. That way you will be sure of having a male to breed with.

It is normal to be wary at first. But trust me this is not Facebook! While there may be differences on how to do things or why, most of us are here to learn and help where can.

    Hello from Wisconsin

Heyas and welcome. Had a wife for 20 yrs was from Cashton, Wi.  Love the area except in winter. For me the attraction with mantis is the alien look when they turn the neck and look at you. Only insect that can turn its head like that. Gets me going every time.

Best care for tenodora sinensis nymphs?

They do have a very high mortality rate. Not sure I would keep wet sponges in habitat. Misting the walls usually gives the extra liquids if needed. Wet sponge would be a bacteria breeding ground, maybe fungus also. Have read that some will keep new hatch together for a few days. The stronger...

Is my enclosure good for shedding and does it have enough air?

I would think droppings and left over uneaten food will cause the substrate to become a health problem. Unless there is something about vermiculite I do not know about (could well be). Agree with more air holes small enough the food doesn't get out.

    I got my first Mantis!

May I suggest you get rid of all the vermiculite. They will be impossible to keep clean leading to many health problems.

    Where can I get a clean-up crew?

@bug lady That is hard to answer with so many variables. The idea is to set it up in such a way that you have very little if any clean up to do. So the habitat does not get disturbed on a regular basis. Lot of good info in the housing section of forum. @Sarah K Great explanation on the 4 layer...

    Molting Issue - advice sought

Sounds more genetic than molt issue to me. Agree with @azblue on this one.

Are diseased crickets killing my Mantids?

Over the years, I have rarely had good results from having someone care for "unusual" pets. I have found most can survive much longer than 2 weeks without food. Not very young ones of course. Was easier to get them ready--bit more feeding, extra cleaning, etc.-- than deal with the possible...
