    First Adult Mesopteryx alata.

Sorry to dissappoint you. It is normal to see both half wing or 3/4 wing version from adult female for this species.

    Giant Malay Katydids

The ones i care for in Houston Museum of Natural Science are being fed romain lettuce and fruits. Both female and male make loud noise! Females deposit eggs in the substrate made of loose/damp soil/compost. Hatchling are really cute!

    How i pack my parcel

Sorry for not paying more attention on this thread. 1. The deli cup is only 2 oz, good for shipment for early stage/small mantis. 2. If it only takes a day or two on shipping, misting is not necessary. As long as the mantis is well fed it won't dehydrate. 3. If temp goes beyond 90F cold pack...

I'm surprised yen didn't post this?

It was a fun telephone interview. Talked for almost an hour and it was unfortunate I have to go. Linda asked some good questions too but it was probably my fault not to explain clearly on mantis growth. Mantis never go through full metamorphisis.

    Pogonomyrmex barbatus (Red harvester ants)

Andrew, the colony can reproduce rather quick. Best is to find a certain container size that fits the colony (not too small or too big), and upgrade the size as the colony grows. Email me if you have more question.

    Pogonomyrmex barbatus (Red harvester ants)

The colony will keep going as long as the queen is alive..... and she may live on for 20+ years. So the colony will probably retire the same time as me :wheelchair: (Maybe i am not as lucky! - work till i drop) All the males are dead soon after nuptial flight and i keep each queen...

    Stagmomantis gracilipes?

Maybe it has been a mild winter where you found the adult. Also adult specimen can handle a short cold spell, but don't stand a chance on a continuous 24hr freeze. So yeah only ooth survive the winter.

    Stagmomantis gracilipes?

That's the only pic i have from my friend. I am not sure if he preserved the specimen, but he did mention the hindwing is yellowish.

    Pogonomyrmex barbatus (Red harvester ants)

Most ant species that live underground should do alright in container without underground tunnels/chambers. It is just that the ants don't get to dig and when you keep the container dark it is similar as a big underground chamber. However, arboreal ant species like twig ants and weaver ants...

Hola Andrew! Enjoy the trip. I will email you next week :)

    Pogonomyrmex barbatus (Red harvester ants)

Sorry i forgot to address your question, yea Vaseline is fine, although a little messy. Also, if the colony outgrew the container floor space, it is recommended to get a larger container or the colony will adjust to it by killing each other or eating up the larvae.
