Welcome. Look like fly pupae. Is your mantis wild caught? These pupae remind of of the type of fly larvae that emerge from a mantis and then pupate. Does your mantis have a wound? In my pic below you can see these parasitoid flies killed the mantis upon emerging.

Many times but usually wild caught. They pierce you with the sharp points on the ends of their forelegs.

Good on you for releasing a native.  I don't think you will notice any reduction in the other insects however.

I've seen it quite a few times but almost always in captivity. I've only come across it a couple times in the wild. 

You should be able to. Make sure they are fully dried and try to pry them (carefully) apart. Some tools may help.

I prefer them. 

If adult and female she is gravid.
