Hi from The Bay Area California

Carl... Welcome! Good luck learning how to keep a pm. Be sure to read up on ventilation. Pickle jars are risky. PM's need plenty of air flow.

The suspected breeder has a long rap sheet of more of the same. What species are you after? ?

    Phyllocrania paradoxa

Females can have future ooths that bare young, but the numbers will dwindle. Re-mating is suggested for higher nymph yields.

    Phyllocrania paradoxa

Females will lay ooths for 3-4 months. The males however only live 6-8 weeks after their adult Molt so you should pair them 2-3 weeks after the male achieves adulthood. Make sure the female is well fed and put them together in a net Cube or large enclosure try to put the male behind the female...

    Partial hatch?

6 is light. Hatches can span 2-4 days in my experience. Feed up there female bc the next ooth could be the jackpot now that you know she was fertilized.

Load with feeders and go to sleep... Lol They will separate when they're done. If you provide plenty of feeders you should be fine.

    What breed

I'm with Dane... Look high and low in that same area for more. Those are just hatched so they could be slowly hatching from an ooth that those bananas brought with them or the plant you mentioned. As far as why the first one died... Could be many reasons but my guess would be to consider the...

    Fruit fly problem??

I used to struggle with mold on every batch. Even using vinegar,  cinnamon, yeast, etc in the mix. Here's what I figured out.... (the hard way... and now I share!!!) Mold typically will start to appear after 3-5 days in a fresh culture start. I have a dedicated spray bottle with 2 parts water...

    Droop - Butt

It is common with this species and for whatever reason more specific to the males than the females from what I've observed. I like the idea of the 45° shed angle!

NEVER USE A BUTTERFLY ENCLOSURE FOR IDOLOMANTIS

True for Violins as well. Sorry you didn't get better info. I use magnets, with sticks as Patty mentioned along with course netting fabric on top and sides for latter instars. Net cages are great for ventilation but too fine for grasping when the do the "flip" following a molt. I learned long...
