Community Mantids - Back at it again

I'm not sure your ghosts will be smart enough to stay away from the heat, as almost every species of mantis likes to hang at the top of the enclosure no matter whay, which is probably where you would have the heat lamp.

Community Mantids - Back at it again

The first thing that comes to mind when I read this post is the difference between the environmental conditions required of each species. Ghosts do best in temperatures 70F to 80 F and Wandering violins require heat and should be kept at temperatures above 90F. From my experience, 90F is way too...

Just caught this guy. Have questions

Yeah, based on the pictures, your mantis seems to be having a hard time holding onto the lid as it is, so if it tries to molt, it will be a disaster. An easy solution to the mesh problem is to buy some pantyhose (Knee high style even better), and you can just fasten it to the top of the UTZ jar...

    Where to begin...?

In regards to a dry climate, Thistles are a desert species and not hard to care for. They just require extra heat (can be provided by a small desk lamp), and  they are a really beautiful species!

    Question

It does not always happen. Especially if you keep your female occupied with other food items while the male makes his approach.

    Small scale fruit fly culturing

This is where we get them from. I think maybe you bought your small fruit fly culture from me? We manually punch the holes in the lids ourselves though, they don't come pre-punched.  https://www.webstaurantstore.com/choice-7-oz-clear-pet-plastic-cold-cup-case/500CC7.html  Also, to prevent fly...

What instar is this Carolina mantis at?

I would second this due to the green color of the mantis. All the male Carolinas I have ever seen are brown with green legs. When the mantis has uniform green or uniform brown between legs and body, you have a female on your hands!
