    Ugly ooth logs

So I’ve found my female truncata still has some ooth foam on her anus. I thought maybe she was okay because she behaved normally and was eating fine. These last two days, however, she’s been a much more difficult eater, dropping the waxworms I offered her. She’ll start chewing at the guts right...

    New Orchid Mantis Owner!

My orchid lady was pretty chill. Never gave me any issues. I’d forget to mist her a lot, and I’m in SoCal and she was sitting in a Deli Cup by a sunny window, but she molted and lived on just fine. Obviously I do not recommend keeping your orchid the same way, but I don’t think they’re as...

Stuck in molt before even molting

So sorry to hear about your loss. The downside of such an unusual pet is how little we know about their health. All we can do is try and hope they can figure out the rest.  Glad you still have her sister, though. Congratulations on the molt, she’s gorgeous!

    Ugly ooth logs

Thanks both of you! Glad I was able to get a laugh, @MantisGirl13! 😂 And definitely, I’ll let you know if I have some for sale! I might not have enough to sell from this egg blob, but if her next one comes out better, I should have quite a few. If I do sell any from this ooth I’ll probably wait...

    Ugly ooth logs

So it turns out my male wasn’t breeding with my female truncata because she’s was about to lay. Thankfully she’s already been mated, so there should be some babies there. The actual problem is how it’s absolutely deformed. Almost half the eggs are completely exposed. But here’s to hoping for the...

    Idolomantis Diabolica

Amazing pictures, perfectly matched with an amazing mantis! Congrats on the adult molt, what’s your secret for keeping them alive?  :o

Stuck in molt before even molting

Wasn’t as severe as dragging himself around, but he was significantly more sluggish than usual, and once the stick he was hanging on fell, and he barely reacted.

Stuck in molt before even molting

I have a male truncata that became a subadult on Jan 4, and didn’t molt to adult until March 7. He was looking like he was in pre-molt for 2-3 weeks. Turns out, all I had to do was put him under a hot lamp, and he molted less than three hours later. So it could be humidity or temperature. It...

    KevinsWither

Ordered an adult female D. truncata from KevinsWither, and the experience was just great! He was very responsive, even when I was communicating with him after the purchase. Very kind and answered all of my questions. The mantis herself arrived alive and healthy, despite colder weather and being...

    Thistle Mantis Dried Like This

Interesting about the head twitch. My adult female truncata spent about two or three days in the mail and it was kind of cold outside. When she arrived she had a little head shake for a few days, but I warmed her up and fed her, and now it’s gone. I was a little concerned, but now she’s acts...

    The Mantis Team

Congrats on the molts @Little Mantis! Tarzan looks like a subadult based on his wingbuds to me.  I also really love he coloration of Rytlock. Nice name too 👍

    RIP Domenic

So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did the right thing. He lived a very full life for a little man, so his rest is well earned.

Scientific name of 'giant asian golden mantis'

There is another golden species, Hierodula java. For both, I believe it is only older females that can be golden/yellow.

    Sexing Rhombo nymph?

@5eyesUK Yeah, Exo has them too, but I was talking about Finn Conrad (@46_69_6e_6e on Instagram). He mentioned at some point he had a female nymph at L4 that was starting to develop brown-ish red and would be nearly fully red by L5 and have her shield. He hasn’t mentioned how he’s been keeping...

    Sexing Rhombo nymph?

I’ve heard of these before. I can’t tell you if they’re real or not, I don’t think they’ve made it to the States yet. I do know someone in Germany who has some young Red Devil nymphs that he’s claimed are turning red, and he’s a pretty experienced keeper, so there’s a possibility there.
