Mantis good for anxiety *kinda deep with this post be warned*

@TEAM BUGS OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder, it's a mental disease where people have the need to do a certain thing over and over and over again. People afflicted cannot control the thoughts that make them do certain things repeatedly. People create rituals that they need to do...

Grossest mantis experience yet while feeding

Yes I've had that happen, it was nasty, once with my giant Asian, once with a gongy. Both times the mantids were fine, they even munched on some of the larvae, haha. The high temps in the gongy cage killed the larvae super fast though, I ended up cleaning out the cage for my giant Asian cuz it...

    Hello from SoCal!

Welcome! SoCal as well! My first trio of mantids included a lineola, and she's still with me! She's almost a year old, lol.

    New member! Male or female?

Judging by the shield it looks male, but a pic of the abdomen would be more helpful. Anyways, welcome! I've got several dessicata at the moment, they're lovely.

    O hi Marc. Haha, welcome!

Do mantises prefer mesh bug screens or plastic surfaces?

@wetterdew I do the same as you, I've got deli cups that I cut up and add mesh to. It's better ventilation, plus they like hanging on it. I buy plastic containers for my bigger mantids and I drill holes in those and add mesh as well.

I think my mantis is dying??

@Rick Well, he is a kid, lol, and it's his first mantis too. @Mantidkid Well now you know why he was being sluggish, I'm glad you got him on a stick right away, or else it might've not turned out so well. Just make sure to not handle him for at least 24 hours. Write down his molt dates so you...

    Ghost dying

Yeah, old age. You gave him a nice long life for a mantis. I still miss my own ghost who died not too long ago.

    Mantis never drinking?

@Mantidkid I wouldn't directly spray it, if you're really worried just offer water thru an oral syringe, like those syringes that parents use to give babies medicine. I like to add honey to the water I offer them and they love it as a treat, plus it keeps them hydrated.

    L3 Ghost suddenly dead?

@hierodula Aww, at least you figured out the cause. Hopefully it can be avoided in the future now.

    One nymph.... or five?

@GingerC I personally love love love having several at a time! I have about 40+ mantids now. This is a hobby I really enjoy, along with arts and crafts. I do only work part time though, so I have the time to care for all of my bugs. I'm also remodeling a room for them so I can house them...

    Red line on abdomen

@Mantidkid This is normal coloration for a basalis. When it becomes an adult it'll have red under wings.

    L3 Ghost suddenly dead?

@hierodula Sometimes it's a bad feeder, or something internal. Make sure there's enough ventilating too, mold is a killer.

    Where's Cosbyart?

@izbiggs @Teamonger @Sarah K @Serle I've been in contact with Thomas and he's ok! He's been busy, and very very sick. But he's recovering! He said he'll be back when he's 100%. He said to say hello to everyone

    Male Hierodula membranacea lifespan?

Mine lasted about two months, he went down fast in the end. He was slower at catching prey, I had to hand feed. He would have a hard time hanging, his tarsus became hard and broke off, and he was just slower in general. I miss that one.

I got my Deroplatys truncata from Chris and I couldn't be happier! Great communication and very friendly! I got two freebies from him too, so awesome. I would highly recommend him and I'll be buying from him in the future for sure. A++ ??

    Made it to l3!

No, it needs to harden fully before misting.
