    Rhombodera Questions

I wouldnt put them in mesh cage cause they require a bit more humidity.  And in my opinion basalis is the best cause of the shield and green/pink color also they are pretty friendly :)

How did YOU get into mantids?

Wow reptiles are banned? That's crazy! Any idea why? Cause it's not like they can survive in Norway if some irresponsible keeper lets them out lol. Glad you found something that isnt, life with pets is way better than without in my opinion lol. Mantids especially :D

How did YOU get into mantids?

I wanted to get a snake, so I went to this expo drunk. Bought a pair of stick insects for some reason. I was always scared of bugs and didnt even know there were such things and sticks insects or different kinds of mantids. I think the guy let the stick insect onto my hand and I was like, to...

    Mantids drinking

My dessicatas like to drink, not nearly as much as truncatas but they don't mind being sprayed at like some mantids do. What I do to find out if a mantis is thirsty is I spray lightly and if it starts to drink I add a bit more so there are nice big droplets for them to drink from. If they seem...

    Plastic Containers! Mis-molt avoided!

Glad u saved him! I once had to save a paradoxa female who fell out of her molt luckily I foubd her right then positioned her on a collection of sticks so she could curl out her winngs and such, very stressful.  Some sp are like the experts at finding the worst spots to molt so I usually just...

    Red and Black Mantids?

Get him a cocroach then lol they are red and black. No srsly like red and black are not quite the colours for mantids only the nymphs L1 in some sp. Maybe metalyticus?

    Deroplatys: Trigonodera vs. Lobata

Yeah trigonoderas are much harder to find, haven't found them myself yet but atm I have dessicatas and truncatas so I'm fine with deroplatyses. If you haven't kept deroplatys yet, start with dessicata, they are the easiest. Also their males have only 1 molt less than females and live long...

    Mantis never drinking?

The spraying on the mantis depends on the sp usually, like I noticed for example hierodulas don't like it, so I try to spray not directly. But some other sp don't really care so I just spray wherever it lands lol. Like for example truncatas are in my opinion the thirstiest mantis sp I've ever...

Mantis good for anxiety *kinda deep with this post be warned*

I have depression and anxiety, and mantids help me too! Even my psychiatrist says it is a good idea, cause it keeps my mind off crappy thougts, gives me something to do so I don't just wallow in sorrow all day long. I read they made a study with old people gave them crickets to care about and it...

    Insane mantis ( slightly nervous)

25 degrees celsius is not too hot for a basalis. Maybe it just got startled. Plus they are one of the more active sp in my opinion (and also easily startled). How big is it? Maybe put a fake leaf in its enclosure they hide on or under it.
