    Just bought my first mantis!

Of course, the place I buy my orchid from is New York, which is basically snowed in haha. Hopefully it passes soon so it can be safely shipped! To keep myself busy while I wait, I'll be ordering one or two hierodula venosa from bugsincyberspace on Monday (so they arrive on my day off). Looks...

    Setting up my mantis vivariums

Thank you all! Setting up vivariums is one of my absolute favorite things, especially the satisfaction of getting to see an animal live happily in them. :) Should have another update tonight, the giant Asian viv is almost finished. Just need to possibly add in some sticks from outside for...

(USA) Looking for giant asians/giant mantids

As the title says, I am looking for a giant asian or other giant mantis species. I don't really have a preferred age, but I do greatly prefer females. I'm located in Livermore, California.  Thanks for looking!

    Setting up my mantis vivariums

This is true! When the fake flowers come in I will put them on top of some of the rocks. :)

    Setting up my mantis vivariums

Today I got to start setting up my mantis vivs! Left will be for an orchid, right will be for a giant asian (hence more greenery). The moss on the branches/logs is real, and so is the fern in the right viv! I got them off ebay, PM me if you want to know the seller since these are very nice and...

    Feeding mealworms carrots?

Understandable! I have a fear of cockroaches but am able to handle dubias with ease. Kind of had to get used to them for the sake of my lizard (plus they're a godsend vs keeping crickets).  Dont worry about it if you never get used to them! Sticking to mealworms and flies is fine. :)

    Feeding mealworms carrots?

As far as I know dubia roaches are good for mantises as well. They're a good source of protein (more so than crickets). They're hardy and easy to keep if you decide to try them! :)

    Your favorite hygrometer?

I asked this question on a bearded dragon forum, but figured I would ask here as well. I'm looking for a reliable and accurate hygrometer, but can't seem to find one. Which is your favorite/do you use?

I love the ones with the pink eyes! The last picture is probably my favorite though. :)

    Just bought my first mantis!

The mantis nymph kit I have came with a small culture of fruit flies, and I also ordered a larger culture. (: When the mantis is larger I will probably feed it the dubias I'll have for my lizard.

    Glorious scarab care?

Thanks for the speedy response! Yeah, I read they take a while to pupate haha. What type of enclosure do you have for it? I'm also looking into hercules beetles as well. Can't seem to find any info on what type of enclosure they should have either. :(

    Glorious scarab care?

Shot in the dark, but I thought I'd ask if anyone had any knowledge of keeping glorious scarabs ( Chrysina gloriosa ). I can't seem to find any info on their care. If I get one It'd be a L2 larvae. Thanks if anyone can help me out here!

    Just bought my first mantis!

I had originally intended on buying an orchid, though because I couldn't find one for sale, I settled on eventually getting a giant asian. As luck would have it, I ended up finding out usmantis.com has some L3 orchids for sale! Quickly snatched one up. My nymph kit I ordered will be here today...

    Mealworms as a staple?

I mentioned it because the calcium/vitamin powder might have been a turnoff to him, but since you're not doing that he's probably just a little picky! You actually don't need to dust phoenix worms since they're already so high in calcium. You can try dipping them in juice to make them more...

    Mealworms as a staple?

Compared to crickets, roaches are a godsend. They're much loved above crickets in the reptile community, lol.  Are you dusting your phoenix worms when offering them to your gecko? My beardie loves dubias, but won't eat them if they are dusted.

    Feeding mealworms carrots?

I don't have a mantis yet, but I keep crickets and roaches to feed my lizard. Generally, you want to give your feeders food that will make them good food for your pet. I doubt styrofoam has any nutrients in it for a proper gut loading, along with cardboard. I wouldn't feed my mantis or bearded...

    Hi from California!

Thank you! I didn't even realized it was an actual thing until I was at a reptile expo a few months ago and a booth was selling ootheca! Since then it's been in the back of my mind, and I've finally decided to get started. I also have a starter kit on the way in case I end up with a nymph...
