    Last years Carolinas

I have been super busy with life stuff but I got a chance to relax before spring begins. I wanted to share some images as well as thanks to CosbyArt for sending me some s.carolina oothecae. This was one of my girls that made it to adulthood. (Crazy how small they are compared to my T.Sinensis...

How to search & find mantids and ooths (Pictorial guide)

Amazing guide for new and experienced hobbyists. Thanks for sharing!

    Chinese abdomen kink!

I had this same exact problem with my T. Sinensis. What I read you can do is try to encourage the mantis to be on the sides of the container so that its abdomen does not bend like that. Another thing to research is crickets and their negative potential on mantis health. A lot of keepers refuse...

Nymphs too large for fruit flies, trying to choose next feeder.

Overcrowding the mantis stresses it out. Crickets can harm your mantis and should not be left in the enclosure. If the animal you're feeding the mantis can bite or sting it should not be left in the enclosure unattended as it may harm or kill the mantis especially during a molt. The only...

HELP! Can't meet food demand for Sinensis nymphs!

I've got a couple t. Sinensis L6 and I was able to feed them mels until L3. I just started s. Carolinas and they're currently L2 and happily eat hydei.  Every L1 I've had so far is frightened of hydei until their first molt.

Found wild nest (S. Carolina?) Looks thrashed found parasite

Sweet! Thank you for the information and the photo. I just checked the container and 17 have hatched so far. Now I'll have all the local flavors of mantis species. I've got L5 T. Sinensis and any day the S Carolina ooth is going to hatch. And now M. Religiosa nymphs. What have I gotten myself...

Found wild nest (S. Carolina?) Looks thrashed found parasite

Thank you. They are very dark. I was surprised to see anything in there besides maybe a wasp or more millipedes. I just had 3 more hatch out today.  :D Which features of the nymph made you choose mantis religiosa?

Found wild nest (S. Carolina?) Looks thrashed found parasite

I just got back from a trip to find 2 nymph hatched. I'm gonna keep the ooth for a bit and maybe there will be a few more. I'm stunned at after how much I handled and dissected it, it's still hatching. Pretty resilient little bunch. Any idea of species? I'll try and take some better photos.

That makes me feel a lot better about it.  That's great news. Next time I'm in that area I'll have to pay more attention.  If I find anything around I'll be sure to post more images.

Found wild nest (S. Carolina?) Looks thrashed found parasite

Oh I do. :)  I was at a BBQ and just so happened to notice it.  That video makes me itch! Great footage btw.  After getting the news about the nest I decided to open it and check out whats inside. Another bristly millipede emerged but besides him it looks like the nest is vacant. Figured I'd...

Found wild nest (S. Carolina?) Looks thrashed found parasite

I was worried this was the case. :(  I was optimistic that it belonged to some mantis species and thought I'd collect it. I've kept it in a container that nothing could escape from. I've read too many posts that include wasps hatching from another insects nest and I'd rather not have that kind...

Thank you. So maybe it was just using the nest as a temporary home.

Found wild nest (S. Carolina?) Looks thrashed found parasite

Today I found a wild insect nest on a fence. It looked pretty beat-up and has a greenish tint. I cut the nest open thinking I wouldn't find anything and saw a few eggs and partially developed insect. I then quickly sewed it back up and took a couple photos.I think it is an S. Carolina (due to...
