Appearance wise Prohierodula picta (anyone know a common name for this species?) are my favorite. My girl is absolutely beautiful, not as flashy as some species, but still so pretty. I'm also really enjoying my ghost mantis, she is very calm. I'm not sure if that has more to do with her species...

I'm not sure if this is typical or not, but I will say that my budwing is a really slow grower. She is fed the same as the others, but she is taking her time when it comes to reaching adulthood. :P I've had several younger mantids mature in the time that it has taken her to reach subadult...

If she's in that bad of shape I would go ahead and put her in the freezer. You could always just let her die naturally, but I would be afraid that she's suffering. I'm so sorry! :(

I currently have a P. picta, so I thought I'd chime in. The mantis pictured does resemble mine a lot, but seems to be missing the black bands that P. picta have on the inside of their raptorial arms. Maybe I just can't see them because of the angle of the pictures?

I've been able to find good enough cultures from Petco and PetSmart to last me until an order of fruit flies arrived and started producing. They are overpriced, but it was worth it to keep everyone well fed while I waited for a shipment. Hopefully you can find what you're looking for! :)  

He/she should be just fine! I've had two come to me completely missing a leg. The first mantis matured recently, and other than the leg being a slight bit shorter that the others, you can't even really tell she was missing one at all. The other little one I have is missing one of the back legs...

Ordered one twig mantis and one orchid mantis, and instead received 4 twigs and an orchid! Super happy with my purchase and all animals are doing great, I would not hesitate to buy from Mikhail again. :)  

It is just an incredibly beautiful species to me! She is a really nice golden brown right now, and I'm really excited to see her wings once she matures. She is not my most friendly by any means, but she's my favorite to photograph. I only have a few not so good cell photos of her right now, and...

Just wanted to say a quick hi. I'm Ashlee, I'm 24, and a student from Texas. I currently have 9 mantids, and my favorite so far is my beautiful little P. picta. I look forward to reading and posting here and continuing to expand my knowledge of these wonderful insects. :)
