    Ghost mantis enclosure

I've raised my female ghost in a 32 oz cup, the same kind that most people use for fruit flies. She has done well in it, it held humidity excellently and all of her molts went perfectly. However, now that she has matured I'll be moving her to a larger enclosure. It just seems a bit small for an...

    Heating for mantids

If you're going to heat your enclosures I strongly recommend you get a thermostat as well. Under the tank heaters can get extremely hot, and I would assume the same could be said for bulbs.

    Three months in...first impressions.

Michel sounds a lot like the adult male orchid I had, once he got his wings he couldn't resist flying everywhere. It made me incredibly nervous because he was so small.

That's awesome! How many little ghost nymphs would you estimate you have right now?

    Building Up the Collection Again

I love the colors on the first mantis, he/she almost looks a bit blue!

    Carolina mantis wild mating

Such a cool find! I'm jealous of people who can find mantids just hanging around in their yards. Apartment living doesn't allow much for that.

    Finally Coming Together

That's awesome! I want to try a naturalistic enclosure, but I have trouble keeping even simple house plants alive.

    BioBubble Terra

They look beautiful! This is probably an ignorant question, but where is the ventilation on these particular enclosures though? They don't appear to have a lot, I would worry about mold growing.

    My Set Ups

They look great and well organized! I love my label maker, I purchased myself one to keep my tarantulas labeled. Now everyone in the critter room has their species label as well as name on their enclosure. :)

    The Un-Enclosure Option

Very cool! This seems like such an interesting thing to try, but I'm afraid of our dog getting any mantis that may decide to leave their plant. He seems completely uninterested in them when I have them out for handling, but I don't want to see what he might try to do if he were alone with them.

    Ashlee's Collection Thread

Oh yeah, we have plenty of pets to keep us busy as well! In addition to the three mantids, I also have 9 tarantulas, a corn snake, and our dachshund. I love being able to spend a few minutes with each mantis everyday, it's very relaxing for me. :) I think I'll be keeping my numbers in the...

@Sarah K @CosbyArt Thank you both! I think Marfa is absolutely beautiful, her coloration really surprised me because she was pretty dull for a long time. And I'm pretty sure that Elf is gravid, she is incredibly swollen in her abdomen and nothing relieves it. :(  As far as I know Tripod is...

    Ashlee's Collection Thread

I wanted to post an update on my babies. No new pictures right now, things have been crazy busy since the new semester started. Ridley: Ridley is doing okay. I've had her for over a year now, but I'm not sure exactly how old she is. I'm not sure what instar she was when she came to me, I'll...

    Something strange happened!

My P. picta once took a small chunk out of the tip of my finger. For a long time I would offer water droplets off of my finger to let them drink after misting, my other mantids always drank and that was the end of it. Elf decided my finger looked tasty and decided to take a big bite. She would...
