    Another newbie in your ranks

Welcome Mushroom! I imagine Philly is pretty cold about now. I hope you find a good pet for yourself and that you enjoy being in the hobby!

    Mantisplace

I have to echo what LAME said. Given the amount of work it takes to raise mantids, Rebecca’s prices are quite reasonable. Her service is wonderful. She sent my package faster than I expected and all my Ghosts arrived safely with extra. She also added some fly pupae to go along with them...

    Out of Diapause?

Iris oratoria do not hatch here in Tucson unless it is consistently above 75 degrees for at least 3 weeks. Even then, if night temps are too low they still wont hatch.

    deep freeze

I used to use pearlite (a mess) but after changing to moss stuff (pictured below) the humidity has been fantastic. I use the moss in conjunction with screened deli cups filled with water. I haven't had to do a major clean up of the substrate yet, though I suspect I will need to screen out dead...

    Egyptian mantis enclosure.

That is a really nice enclosure! Miomantises are as easy as they get. Short of a shoebox (which may also work) any enclosure that has something to grip during molting should work. I should post some of my old miomantis pics sometime!

    Iris oratoria ooth care?

Interesting! I never knew this, Agent A! I found a half-hatched ootheca in the wild this winter and picked it up just for reference. I think I'll try incubating it and let you know if anything transpires! Perhaps another possibility is that some hatch in the fall and some in the spring. Either...

    Iris oratoria ooth care?

One thing to consider is the lows of places where these things come from. I don't know if other places where the Iris oratoria from have incredibly moderate climates, but my last indoor attempt at incubating an ootheca of these did not result in hatching very many. I left several ootheca of...
