    Cometmoth

I bought a small batch of Macromantis at a great price, and they all arrived alive and well! Very accommodating and overall a good experience. Recommended.

    Purple Spiny flower mantises

Interesting! Yeah, I'm really looking forward to raising a new generation, it'll be interesting to divide up the siblings with different conditions and see. It also makes me wonder if orchid mantises are affected by the same factors. Another interesting thing is that it's been particularly dry...

Haven't been visit the mantis forum since covid, but it seems I'm not the only one.

Yeah, I stopped checking in here regularly a few years back, even a year or two before the pandemic. High school freshman me was too embarrassed to have a hobby that could potentially freak people out, even though pretty much everyone I knew either didn't care or even thought it was cool and...

    Purple Spiny flower mantises

Late reply, lol, but it may have either been light exposure or heat. I kept her outside in the shade over summer, and ofc in SoCal, it was pretty dang warm. So I'm not sure if it has to do with sun exposure, heat, or both, but something I may experiment with further. The ones I got from you have...

    Purple Spiny flower mantises

I had a pretty vibrantly colored female a few months back, though still not comparable to some of those photos from iNaturalist! She eventually faded back to a more typical white color as she got older, peaking in color I believe around L5-ish. She passed just before her final molt :(

    Happy1892

Bought a group of 4 Spiny Flower mantises from Nathaniel, and in addition to everything arriving wonderfully packed, earlier than expected, and all healthy and alive, he sent 7 instead, and a Texas Unicorn ooth and Brunner's Stick ooth! Both of which, especially the Brunner's, have been species...

LF A Spiny Flower Man for my female

Looking for a male spiny flower mantis, ideally subadult or presubadult, for my subadult female. Willing to buy or work out some kind of ooth exchange arrangement.

    Are store-bought ooths worth it?

I’ve only ever seen Chinese mantis ooths for sale, never any other species and of course no natives unfortunately, but it might be different where you live if you’re lucky. So far I’ve had no failures in my memory, but I stopped buying them a few years ago, so I could be mistaken. But yeah...

    mantisloverguy6000 (agent A, US)

Received an Otomantis scutigera ooth, free of all charges including shipping. Very kind, very fast, very good packaging, and a very unscathed ootheca. Could not be more thankful for such a kind welcoming back into mantiskeeping. Highly recommend them!

Can different colored Mantids of the same species mate?

I vaguely remember something like two animals who cannot produce fertile offspring are not the same species, but they do not always have to be the same species to produce fertile offspring.
  15. River Dane

    Hard to acquire species.

@Mitch65009 Psst!  ;) Leave one for me though!

    Insects Mantises CANNOT eat?

Ant alates, the queens and kings. Afaik, the males are defenseless. That happened to one of my first mantises. Had a friend watch him over vacation, but he had an ant problem and they killed him 😕

    Summer plans/goals?

Way more indoor gardening. I love gardening, but my patio’s full of pots, so now I’ve got nowhere else to go but inside. Not that I’m complaining  :D Took some cuttings of my Schefflera today, have to wait a few weeks to see if they take. Also got a huge Sweet Dario peace lily from my garden...

    Egg case help?

Chinese mantises are easy to hatch. Just put them outside where they’d hatch in the wild or keep them at room temp and mist once every few days. Most if the time when I used to hatch Chinese ooths from a garden center, there would only be about 20-40 per ooth, so I wouldn’t be too worried about...
