Well, the day of my first experience mating two Hierodula Membranacea approaches, so naturally I have a handful of concerns....

A few friends are coming over for the occasion, but will too much human presence aggravate them?? Because the last thing I need in this situation is added stress, especially since I'll have to keep track of and watch over them the whole time.

Next up is music, since this is going to take a while (He who sold me Karku mentioned this species might mate for an entire day) It occurred to me to play some music, but since my IPod isn't working no more I'll have to play that with my phone, but will that yield any negative consequence? Come to think of it, I recall playing the Pokemon Theme Song and seeing Fluffy shake intensely. Perhaps I should just compile a Playlist for this, an 18 Song Journey sounds like a good idea for just this occasion.

I should probably give Fluffy something to eat right before Dracula comes near her, but I fear the usually huge Cricket from Petco might not be large enough, I wish they still sold feeder mice. I'd hate to just give her a cricket every time she finishes one if I'm supposed to leave them alone. Maybe I should catch one of those small lizards I see outside, but wild prey might be a bad idea.

Oh Yeah, and I've been thinking about what kind of stick Fluffy might want to lay her eggs on. At the moment she has only two in her cage. Mind you these are sticks and foliage I find on the ground on my ways to and from work. Is there a certain preference female Mantises have about where to lay eggs? In the wild I suppose she'd lay them something that would still be there next spring, so....

How do I intervene if I need to? If she decides to attack him after mating starts.....

I found this video on You Tube from one of our fellow forum members, Precarious, It is a really great resource for information about how to mate aggressive species, check it out:

U usually don't have to feed the female the whole way through, just before he connects with her and holds her properly. What species are they?
