So I've got 3 adult H. venosas.  One really cool bluish, green male, and 2 females (golden phase - half green and half gold actually).  Female 1 ~  3 weeks old and starts calling.  I paired them up and he was hooked up in no time.  Female was well fed and not aggressive at all.  4-5 hours later, he makes his getaway and I separated them.  Female 2 ~ 2-3 weeks old and starts calling.  And this female is just not as robust as number 1.  Hard to get her to eat. Seems intimidated by crickets on occasion.  Not all that nimble or steady on her feet actually. But anyhow she's pretty fat and well-fed...so I bring the male in to do his thing again.  Which he does.  All connected and everything good.  Hanging upside down from the fabric at the top of the enclosure and it looks like she can barely support the combined weight.  Downside is that it's getting late at night.  They've been at it for 3-4 hours already, but the timer/lights just went off, it's late, I gotta work, so I figure i"m sure he'll be fine in the pitch black until morning.  I wake up at 5 a.m., turn on the lights, and Female 2 is now REALLY fat...and male #1 is two wings and one foreleg.  Just when you think you know these things!  I was pretty bummed about it, because the male was just really beautiful.  Easy to handle.  Would fly around in the basement on occasion.  Sheesh.  Lesson learned.

So now the ooth question (I promise this will be short).  Female #1 just laid a really nice ooth on a thick burning bush stick I placed in the terrarium.  I got to watch the whole thing from start to finish.  (about 3 hours or so). It's a really neat process to watch if you have the patience. The ooth is now in a separate container.  Will mist about once or twice a week at most.  Low 70s temps.  How long do Hierodula venosa ooths incubate until hatching typically?  I'm guessing female #2 will be producing hers in the next week or so as well.  Is 2 - 3 months about the average?  Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. The species tends to be more cannibalistic than others, "Giant Asian Mantis females are relatively often cannibalistic. Mating can take several hours. The male has to be removed from the enclosure as soon as mating ends if you want him to live."

Mantis Monarch says 30-40 days for the particular species. Hibiscusmile says 6-7 weeks (42-49 days) for the H. membranacea variety - so somewhere around the 40 day mark would be a safe bet.
