Because I left a cricket in the tank and the Mantis is about 2 inch away from it just staring at it. it's been like this now for a few hours and the cricket has not moved so the mantis is just sitting there waiting for it to move. Will the mantis eventually get tired of it and leave the cricket alone?.

Depends. If the food is not moving the mantis might not be able to see it until it moves again. Or the mantis could be ready to molt and not really interested in eating.

I just prodded the cricket and the Mantis has eaten the whole thing! he is only a nymph, it took him about 2 minutes to kill it and about 10 minutes to finish it.

It seems to me that mantid vision is based on movement, and it seems that crickets know this, because I have seem some crickets just sitting comepletly still until the mantis loses interest.

I hardly doubt a crickets "knows" it;s being watched by a mantis.
