Bringing in a native species at night

Thanks! I checked out S. limbata, and she is the only one I've seen described as having pink wings. So now that's settled. And I'm glad she can tolerate the weather here; I don't think she much liked being caged at night!

Bringing in a native species at night

I live in a climate (CA Central Valley) that gets very hot (but not humid) in the summer, and down into the 40's or high 30's in the winter. I have had a native "pet" S. Carolina (??) living on a potted plant on my porch for several weeks. For the past two nights, I have brought her in and put...

    Recommendations, please?

I would have to say my problem with roaches comes from living in Boston, where two apartments I lived in were infested with them. I have no problem with crickets or flies. I'm happy to be in a small town in CA now - no roaches in the places I've lived. Actually what I meant by Sphagmomantis was...

    Recommendations, please?

I am new to keeping mantids (I found one in my house that I bought an enclosure for, but she only lived five days). But I became enamored of the idea of keeping one (born in captivity) as a pet. I think they're fascinating and (mostly) beautiful creatures. But I can't decide what kind to get. I...

    Can anyone ID this mantis?

I really appreciate all your replies. I realize that not all members of a particular species of mantis look alike, but of the three suggested, I can't find one picture or description that mentions pink eyes, or pink wings. While it's not crucial that I know exactly what kind she is, I would like...

    Can anyone ID this mantis?

Yes, after reading some more, I realized she's a female, with that abdomen. Thanks for the correction!

    Can anyone ID this mantis?

Thanks! I live at the northern end of California's Central Valley. Summer temps average about 90-95, but often reach 103 or higher. Winter temps (day) are in the low 40's, but it can go below 32 at night. I have thought about bringing her inside, but it seems kind of cruel as she's always lived...

Oops - for some reason the pictures didn't come through - let me try again.

    Can anyone ID this mantis?

This mantis has been living in a potted plane on my porch for several weeks. We've become friendly. Originally he would pull away from me when I offered him my finger, but now he'll climb right on and sit on my hand. Yesterday he even climbed up my arm and sat on my head! He/she is very pretty...

    Hello from Paradise!

Paradise, CA, that is. I am brand new to the world of mantids, and can't wait to learn more. A few weeks ago I found a praying mantis on my bedroom wall. She was a pure grass green, and beautiful! I put her outside, but when I got home a few hours later, she was sitting on my door knob, so I...
