    Don L.

I recieved two pairs of C. elongata from Don 24 hours after shipped. They all were in great shape. The transaction was great, a very helpful and forthcoming person to deal with. Another satisfied customer. Ray

    H.R. 669! U.S. members

It really is frustrating to see this kind of uninformed legislation being brought before Congress. I have to admit that I haven't written my Rep yet; because it just seemed to flawed to pass. So seldom are the exotic pets the real problem species except cats, but they are exempted. However I...

*Red Alert for all exotic pet keepers in us*

Just for the record the brown snakes have pretty much wiped out the bird life on Guam(extinction is not funny), that is until they get the European house sparrows out there. There are thousands of non-native species here in North America and most fall into some kind of balance, and it's only a...

    New macro pics

Those are amazing portraits, Yen. As a little construtive art critique, I think the richness of the colors in the mantids gets lost in the intensity of the background color. I always enjoy your photos on this forum. Thanks for the great pics. Ray

    Stagmomantis carolina nymphs

I have nymphs from different parents for those interested in breeding. If any are interested I would willing to trade for another North American native species. Thanks Ray

    Help! I've got fungus

Thanks for that information Phantom. The baking soda is doing a good job on the mildew, and I am taking care to water the soil and not so much the leaves. I've pruned some of the more spotty leaves back and as more fill in I am thinking I should take the older leaves off to lessen the amount of...

    R.I.P. old man

I just thought I would put it out there that today I had a male Rhomodera sp. pass on that had been an adult for 7 months. He spent alot of time just hanging out in living room on the ceiling, drapes and plants. He had to be over a hundred in mantis years, and he will be missed.

    Help! I've got fungus

That is a good suggestion. I do have some of my other plants set up that way, but I had seen on some of the other threads in this section the suggestion of placing them in a bowl of water. Maybe as a precaution against allowing the soil to dry out without over watering the top. I'm kindof...

    Feeding crickets

 I couldn't say what the daily requirements are, but it may be an interesting research project for somebody else to do. I might be wrong but I'm assuming that all animals have very similar cellular physiology and therefore have similar metabolic needs. Bok choi is awesome stuff as well...

    Feeding crickets

I have found organic kale to be the food of choice of my crickets. They choose it over other greens and it's chock full of vitamins. Plus the shelf life is greater than any other leafy green.

Thanks for the tip. I found some good info. I'll try it out.

    Help! I've got fungus

My wife bought me this beautiful plant for Christmas, a Nepenthes sp.I believe, and it had taken some cold damage from transporting it in December in WI, but it was beginning to wake up and bounce back nicely. Then a few days ago I noticed a bit of mildew and now I can tell it is definitely...

    Wanted: Hierodula membranacea male

I am in need of an adult male H. membranacea for a charming widow. I can trade for a Stagmomantis carolina ooth if desired. Ray

    Mated Shield

I haven't visited in a while. Thanks for info Kattnapper. I'm keeping my ooths in the water heater closet and misting them daily. The temp is hovers in the upper 70's in there. Hibiscusmile, a mantis can become egg-bound? What do you do in that situation? To tell the truth she seems more...

    Mated Shield

I insulated her enclosure and got it up to 86 f and the next day she got her ooth out. Feb 13, it is close to 6 or 7 cm long. Thanks for the help. Ray

    Mated Shield

Just an update I've warmed her up to around 80 F since the last post. Now she has deposited two false starts, just a small amount of the ooth foam (is there a word for this substance ?) with a stringy tail and then stopped. The only thing I can think to do is raise her temperature and keep the...

    Mated Shield

I keep her around 70 F. I know that is cool for tropical mantids but they have always been active as far as eating well and moving around. They seem to live longer as well. She has great appetite. Here in Wisconsin it has been in the single digits and below for a stretch of almost a month now...

    Mated Shield

She molted to adult around Dec. 7. I don't have my notes with me here to be exact. I know I keep it a bit cold in my house and that slows them down a bit, but I do believe that mantids are fairly predictable in the timing of their lifecycles. Thanks for the input.

    Mated Shield

I had a successful mating of my giant shields back on Dec.23-24, they were literally coupled for 24 hours. The female looks ready to pop, but there is no ooth yet. I don't have any experience with these mantids, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some kind of general time table from...
