    Video: Mantis Eats Sushi!

    1) Invertebrates do not have as highly developed a nervous system as vertebrates. The do not feel pain. Fish do. If youre not a biologist, dont even start with this argument. 2) The "but other people do it all the time" argument belongs in the playground. Im shocked people still carry this...

    Hello from Perth

i still think O ministralis and O. novaezealandiae are both sold as NZ mantis, especially overseas. perhaps christian can enlighten us? and its too small for pseudomantis, unless its a male.

No more snow in moscow... ever.

this isnt the first time this has been done. think of the olympics. i dont see why anyone would think this is such a bad idea. in a city where poverty is rife and hundreds freeze to death each winter a little less snow isnt going to hurt anyone.

    Vegan spider found!

cool. as for the name, our friend wiki states: "The genus name is derived from Bagheera, the black panther from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, with the species name honoring Kipling himself.[2] Other salticid genera with names of Kipling's characters are Akela, Messua and Nagaina. All four were...

    any relation

This looks like neomantis from australaia. james can tell you more as theyre his favorite. considering theyre in the same genus id take a wild stab at them being somewhat related, if thats what you mean. but no, theyre not brothers or anything, lol. My mistake, just looked at the site, its...

    Ooth laying sequence

this is a great thread! id say the width of the ooth would be dependant on how far the mantid can comfortably flex its abdomen to each side. the hypothesis would be larger mantis/longer abdomen = wider ooth? it'll be interesting to see if this is the case. oh and nice pics!

    Peacock Mandit Not Eating

stop pestering him. give him at least a day to himself after his molt!

    Internal parasites

looks like it laid only the egg mass and no foam. i have my doubts about a parasitized mantid being able to lay even this sickly looking ooth as id assume the parasite would eat the eggs.

    Green Lynx Spider

wow. fantastic creature and a beaut shot! very artistic! id get rid of the light patch on the fly as it draws attention away from the spider, what do you think?

    Creobater gemmutus acting strange

slowly and painfully. i dont know! if he dies he dies. if he doesnt then wonderful. i have to say though, youre smart enough to tell that these arent very good signs. points to toxins in the system.

    Congratulations Kamakiri!

    Internal parasites

are you sure the exit wound might not be in one of the lateral creases of the abdomen? check it when the nymph dies. this is fascinating!
