That Portuguese antlion is much larger than the ones I have seen here in Florida, how long are they?
Great video, and quite a diverse diet of hoppers.
Thank you for sharing.
I breed them after two weeks and results are very good.
Like said before, feed her well before adding the male. My experience breeding Stagmomantis carolinas is that some males are just to slow, and some are like lightning bolts knowing how to approach the lady without loosing their head. If...
:( Yesterday morning I found the Ancotista dead, RIP.
Probably she was at the end of her life cycle.
Well she is in the freezer for a future taxonomic ID.
Will keep looking for more.
Rick, I am looking for Gonatista g, and if I find them I will let you know asap.
Temperature/humidity is a key to large growth. All mantis that I keep outdoors (during the Floridian summer) grow to larger adults, eat more, and live less. The higher the environmental temperatures the higher metabolic life rate, hence burn out is quicker.
Happy1892,

Rick, I am guessing is some kind of Ancotista sp, most probable the same specie Andrew found.
I will keep my eyes open for G grisea. What is your dead line for the expo.
Andrew,

Suppose that among the state collection of mantids in Gainesville, there is one Acontista among the Mantoida maya specimens.
It happens all the time, even with mammal collections. That...
Boxer mantis, they sure  .
:taz: I want one!!!
I imagine the overture with Andalusian flamenco.
Bravo, bis, bis, bis.
Thank you for sharing, and keep it coming.
