    abdomen bloat

I don't think it's overfeeding, as the moths are very small, and my other nymphs get very thin just one day after eating them.

    abdomen bloat

Hi all, One of my juvenile wahlbergii females is having an issue I haven't seen before. She seems to be eating and acting normally, but each time she eats and her abdomen expands like you would normally see after a mantis feeds, it does not deflate back down. It's almost as if she can't excrete...

Hi all! I'm looking for females preferably around L5/6 of H. Coronatus and P. Wahlbergii. If you are near the LA area local pickup can be arranged! thanks!

    Essential oils poisonous?

Hi all, I’m planning to move my mantids into a new room soon, but the room has had an orange essential oil diffuser running until today (it will be turned off permanently). I know that orange oil is poisonous for a lot of bugs, would it be safe to move the mantids in a few days?  thank you!

What is the best starter species?

ghost mantis (phyllocrania paradoxa) are very exotic looking and require little care.

So I went to a reptile show...

+1 to what others have said The fly trap and sarracenia will do poorly if left in the terrarium, but will probably die if suddenly put outside for dormancy. I'd take them out of the terrarium and move them to individual pots, but keep them indoors by a windowsill until the weather warms up...

    Exo terra Nano tall? Question?

I feel like that 8x8x12 would be a bit cramped for an adult of those species... You can regulate the humidity by misting. those have a mesh lid so I wouldn't worry about too much humidity, but maybe too little.

What mantis for Exo terra nano

I love those tanks. I kept all of my mantids in exos. You can keep any larger species in it and just decorate to their needs. I would only put larger species in the tank. it is so big a small mantis might not be able to find food or might get lost. also, small feeders for those small species...

    Good Camera help

+1 most mid- to high-end point & shoots do fine macro work and are perfectly adequate for mantid shots, as they are pretty large insects. Unless you are looking for pro-level shots, they will work well. I'd look at some camera review sites and find a good one for your needs and budget. If...

    Anger management issues

Almost all of my males did this for a few weeks after the adult molt. They seem to be a lot more easily scared and threat pose more during the first few weeks. For example my male creo threat posed or flied away when he saw movement anywhere near him. After a couple weeks he started acting...

My Dead Leaf female is about to molt to adulthood! How long will it take?

that is a tiny bit cool...maybe try a low heat desk lamp?

    Two Mantis time Commitment Questions

It took me about 10 minutes. I misted the enclosure, went outside to catch a bug to feed, and fed. Obviously the feeder catching takes some effort. I'd say it's about the same amount of time to care for feeders. In special circumstances like a molt or mating, it takes longer, about 30 minutes...

    Mantis Cleaning & Folding?

I've seen this behavior before. No need to worry. you can just pull the string off unless it's really stuck. I use a wide mister so a bit of water got on the mantis whenever I misted. A small amount should be fine unless they're molting, in my experience. However, I only use distilled or RO...

    Stackable Container Ventilation

that is enough, just don't over mist. Ghosts are pretty indestructible. What you should worry about is the mantises annoyingly sitting right on top the side holes, as they love to do.
