    Phantom Pregnancy

Hi all I woke up this morning to find my unmated female Sphrodromantis Linolea had started laying an ooth. Is this normal?

Why September is great in the UK

Great joy here in Blighty. It's the start of the crane fly season (or as they are known here - 'Daddy-Long Legs). These guys are easy to catch, plentiful and the mantids love them. Providing my clan with food will be sooooo easy for the next couple of weeks... :D Until of course, someone...

    Three months in...first impressions.

OK people, so I'm really new here but here is my view on what I have: Pseudempusa pinnapavonis (peacock mantis) 'Manny' - Male My first mantis and still one of my most difficult. He's what we'd call in the UK, a numpty. He's afraid of everything. Won't eat for days on end and is a continual...

    The French Connection

Some of you may have read on another thread that my brother was spending the summer at his house in France. I'd asked him to bring back a mantis if he saw one. I never for a moment expected hime to come up with the goods but he has! This little lady has come all the way to the UK from near Bordeaux.

    My Set Ups

Here are my set ups at the moment. I borrowed the office labelling machine as I think I need to get my house in order seeing as my collection is growing on a weekly basis. I'll need to keep track! Possibly due to have a couple of Prohierodula Laticollis arriving soon, which I'm excited about.

    The Mantis 'Wobble'

I've noticed both my mantis wobble during feeding and shortly after just before they clean their raptors. Both also wobble more when eating honey. Is this a mantid's happy behaviour perhaps?

    Suffering from GMM

GMM - Get More Mantids I have now reserved a female orchid mantis from a local reptile shop. She'll be available in about three weeks. I've heard they are an 'intermediate' species but if they're anything like Manny and Maude, she shouldn't be any trouble. I'm really looking forward to her...

    Maude's First Molt (with us)

So, glad that Maude has had a successful molt. Being new to keeping mantids, I wasn't sure what to expect but she's done it all herself. Can't believe she's almost doubled in size..

    Hi from Reading, UK

I'm new to keeping mantids (what a surprise as I'm posting in the 'Introductions' thread... :D ) I currently have a male Peacock Mantis (imaginatively called Manny) and a female African Lined, name as yet decided. Fascinating creatures, it has to be said. Manny's in a 30 X 30 X 30 terranium...
