hey all, now i have kept 3 distinct lines of creobroter before

i think they r gemmatus, pictipennis, and apicalis

i am looking at the wings and thorax in all 3 lines, and arrows point to differences

first are creos from tammy's stock, i think they r apicalis

few pics of the male, the orange arrows point to mites on his face, others indicate differences

here is a dead pictipennis specimen

note the green on the side of thorax and the fact that there isnt an isolated dot in the middle wing ring like in apicalis, also the smaller 2 spots are more "messy"

and the male gemmatus, old pic but no little spots and very drab ring

female apicalis

now ironically the apicalis male has an isolated spot but female doesnt and pictipennis female has isolated spot and male doesnt

Alex: You have done some good work with these comparison's but be careful not to draw major conclusions until you have examined many specimens of the same species and see that the spots you are noting on the wings are consistent. There can be variations even in the sibblings of a given hatch. Also the opened and closed positions of the wings can alter the way some of the markings appear. Keep up the good work. It is good to get this knowledge out their so that buyers can be aware that what one buys and what one gets can sometimes be different.
