Long story short.... I was bitten by my sub adult chinese mantis and blood drew. It was not raptor flicking, not Scratching, and not grasping well it did that too but its jaws touched my skin. I am kinda scared about any infections or if they have any thing bad that could hurt me. If you want the full story I will type it at your request. Please no hateful comments or anything like that. I bandaged it up and and added neosporin. What else.... is it deadly.

Congratulations on yr first mantis injury! You will be absolutely fine, you will not get an infection or toxic reaction and you will be able to tell new members in future that there is nothing to fear from a mantis bite or scratch. :D

I just had a raptoral spike work it's way out of my finger from a strike. It wasn't too bad, but just a hazard of the hobby. You should be fine. Neosporin is good. Have you tried Windex?

LOL...sorry, I can't help but chuckle a little.

Is there something wrong with me that I have never been bitten by a mantis?

And Rebecca...a GHOST, no less? Did you have honey on you or something?? :p

You'll be fine - I'd rather have a mantis bite than one of those giant horsefly bites! :)

A horsefly bite is surprisingly painful, some compare it to a bee sting. For me, it can cause minor swelling and leaves a small raised welt.

you might be in trouble only if you've been feeding your mantis roaches from the dump, or flies clustered round dog excrement in the park, or...

U get what i mean ;) No worries!

Haha like everyone else said, you'll be fine. And I don't think getting bit by a mantis warrants any negative comments. I haven't gotten bit in a while (but I did get bit by a large katydid the other day, WOW did it hurt).

P.S Love the autosave feature!

Katydids have a surprisingly strong bite, just the sight of their mandibles freaks me out. I would rather have a mantis bite than a bite from just about anything else.

My daughter and I have been bitten by mantids a few times, and we have never had any major complications. Just take care of it like any other superficial scratch or cut.
