Ok well i went out to a nearby feild and found two ooth. 1 Looks like a bird got it and the other looks hatched. I didn't collect the ooth since they didn't look good. So since there was a frost a while ago did all the mantids die? I have seen some mantids after frosts before. So any tips on when to look for ooth or even a mantis?

Even though the first frost hit in your area, mantids (and nature) always find a way. A mantis can sneak into a warm area like under a house or under some lights (like at a gas station).

You should wait until all the foliage falls off of trees and bushes to make it easy to spot ooths. I have seen many this way. Nurseries that sell ooths do this too.

You sometimes find a few after the first frost. May see them if it warms up enough to get them active. Course they won't be around much longer.

Thanks i was just wondering if i could find one walking around. My friend said he saw about 5 at his house about a week ago (my aunt lives 1 block from him and we released some nymphs there). Some might say that there were already mantids around the houses but your wrong. The area they are in was just newly developed. I wonder if i could find some ooth on his bushes? He said he saw the mantids on his driveway on the ground.
