RE: Insect Cups with ventilated lids IN ENGLAND

I've tried ventilating my containers with pieces of mesh screening as well, but ran into one major problem: crickets. I feed my mantids ( mostly ) flies and little roaches, but I also feed them crickets... And these crickets have been chweing massive holes in the mesh screening. So any future...

    Mantids not eating!

16 - 19 degrees is to cold.. You're slowing down the metabolism of the mantids which causes them to refuse food. Try increasing the temp to 22 - 25 degrees. Good luck

    Peruvian mantid pics

Another great thing about this species ( to me that is ) is that the 10th :!: ooth from one of my females recently hatched, providing me with some 40-ish healthy nymphs. Not that special you might say... Well.. She has just mated once, before laying any of those 10 ooths... Quite strong...

    your pick?

Nympho said Do you seriously have any idea of what you're talking about ??? Gongylus females produce up to 10 ooths, all containing 10 - 35 nymphs.. So where exactly did you read about 300 nymphs per ooth ??? Or did I completely misread your topic

    your pick?

Underrated: Hierodula membranacea. Allmost everybody has them; easy to keep, large, beautiful normal type mantis. Over rated: Definately Phyllocrania paradoxa. One of the most beautifully shaped / camouflaged species.... yet the most dull species I've ever had. The just sit in their...

    Seperating nymphs

Tenodera ?? Hmm... dunno.. Guess I would seperate them a.s.a.p. For Oxyopsis: you shouldn't worry about cannibalism that much. I've been keeping them together in one container since they've hatched. They're pretty much all L4 now and I have had allmost no deaths due to cannibalism... So, you...

    *Feeding scale*

I allways feed my mantids prey items that are 1/3 to 1/2 of the mantid's length. In that case I just provide them with as many crickets / small roaches that they eat at a time.
