Thought I'd share some mildly interesting things I've learned about mantids after caring for one for about a year now. I would also like to hear anything interesting you guys have to share as well!

Most mantids die after birth. It's just how their life cycle works. Hundreds of nymphs hatch so that a few of them may grow up as adults to reproduce.

Simply put, I stumbled across some Youtube videos about mantids and they absolutely fascinated me. There's something so interesting about them. They're literally bug-eyed aliens with scythes for hands, THAT YOU CAN HAVE AS A PET.
I can watch videos about mantids for hours, and watch my pet...
Gently put two of your fingers underneath the mantid's front legs. You can scoop them up by gently reaching underneath their abdomen and lifting upwards. If they need some coaxing, gently nudge the back of its abdomen. Make sure to get your mantid's attention first before picking them up...
Everyone I have shown my mantis to have found her interesting.
They ask me, "why a mantis?"
I usually just say, "because I think they're cool," and leave it at that.
