Looking for mature male rhombodera basalis or even a subadult. Prefer mature male as my females are calling now and would like to catch there first ooth.
I have been breeding this species for some time I just had bad luck getting a male out of my group this generation.
I wouldn't orchids in particular are more susceptible to bacterial infections and to add to that are kept slightly higher humidity. Crickets if self cultured from eggs or pinheads if they are kept healthy and clean can be used for drier mantid species. Also add crickets are agresive to weakened...
Hierodula majuscula is well known as aggressive species when breeding. So don't beat yourself up on losing a male.
Female 5 weeks mature watch for her to call and male close to 3 weeks just watch for male to be intrested.
Breeding them I personally like large mesh enclosure 24x13 feed female...
Also sometimes a slightly higher temps help the mantids digest ther food. Even though a lot of mantids do fine in the upper 70s degrees they may have issues digesting some feeders completely. Warming up temp at feeding time for a little while or even feeding at the warmest time of day may help.
Personally I like to keep moist moss in a seperate container and culture springtails. I use this mixture on top of 1/4 to 1/2 inch of vermiculite works great for adding moisture and easy to monitor. Also vermiculite is not organic so nothing to cause mold and it's lightweight. The main thing is...
Honestly I use mesh cube or the the larger 24 x 13 mesh enclosure and a a che ceramic heat emmitter installed in a nano hood temp at the emmitter can get 100 plus but i place it 2 inches from enclosure the mantids will also self regulate by moving closer to bulb or further if i find several...
It's not made of metal so it doesn't rust so they have no need to put or use oil on it. I've been using it for several years the only problem I've had with it is had 3 mantids get raptorial stuck through the mesh holes while grabbing prey realy freak occurrence though. I use it for many of my...

The roll of window repair fiberglass screen is not a woven mesh and works great wallmart carries it also. But as with anything have had mantids get it's raptorial stuck in it but very rarely happens. Some screens are woven which one strand crosses another and that's the big problem with some...
What is the material you use on your bags for fly orders? I cut them up and glue to enclosures especially for small nymphs because fruit flies can't get out works great and doesn't wast them.

If mantid has trouble with digestion it will often vomit. Sometimes it's feeders and sometimes the mantid overeats or actualy eats faster than it can digest the food. I think it's best to feed mantids in the warmer time of day if you can but sometimes just hard to do. You can increase temp by a...
