Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

Yeah, well my mantids are pawing at the front glass saying, "Feed me!"  I'm trying not to look at them :(

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

All three have been like this one.  Maybe that's why she get so dang big?

Sphodromantis sp tanzania--legs like a newborn colt!

Ah, it was just stupid me.  I use 8" tongs, but she really got an armload of the tweezer and wouldn't change her grip (and my back was killing me) so I stupidly reached with my other hand to try to push her arm a bit---she changed her grip alright!  I won't be doing that again---maybe a Q-tip...

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

Post #3 ooth.  Still over-weight? And covered with ooth matter. Oh and I see that she actually does have the side rib thingy now that she is not so expanded!!!

Sphodromantis sp tanzania--legs like a newborn colt!

Dbl shields: same personality as adults then because at a month and a half, she is this massively big girl, but calm and dignified.  She is always ready to eat (so I'm going to watch my chart now!) and she is actually the only mantid to have drawn blood so far---she didn't bite--I got my finger...

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

Thomas, for some reason I am having problems getting into the right spot this morning.  Like yesterdays's post was still in front of me in the works, yet already posted, too.  Now it seems to be setting up correctly.  I'm sure I must have done/not done something right. Anyway, Freda is...

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

Thomas, I guess I should have asked if I could print off your diagram since you did ALL the work?  Do you mind? I do have a question.  Looking at my Freda in her post-ooth photo, by your diagram, she is still plump then? She has not stopped wandering for the last two hours---I hope she's...

Headless Popa spurca alive after five hours!

Well, too late as the isopods have found Huey today and he is rigid so I will leave his remains for them.  He gave it a good try though.

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

Thomas and Krissim Klaw, Many thanks!  Thomas, the diagrams and photos have helped me immensely (they have the same pictures at the vet showing cat and dog bodies in varies degrees of starving to obese).  These are excellent and I really appreciate the time you took to set them in front of me...

Sphodromantis sp tanzania--legs like a newborn colt!

Thomas, her frass is normal for her---big. I couldn't get the paper towel in there to lay flat due to her big sticks, so the frass is rolling off the low end but I found it with a flashlight tonight. Oh, I just looked up and she was plopping out a fresh one to show me.  It looks great, which is...

Headless Popa spurca alive after five hours!

Thanks, Thomas.  I mis-spoke.  I like nymphs, too.  I just think an oothful of them is beyond me.  Plus that would mean all those little containers again after I finally got everyone into aquarium sections which I am really enjoying!

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

I suppose I could treat all of them like the Popas and only offer food every other day and only give honey and water on the non food day. The Budwing, with her little short wings does look huge---she is heavy in my hand.  I hope she lays an ooth soon and I'll try a different feeding schedule. (...

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

And yet, everyone on the forum says it is unlikely that a mantid will over-eat (other than the Popas which I only offer food every other day) and you have said you give your females six BB flies a day when they are at the ooth-laying stage.Freda doesn't eat that much.  If I drop too many flies...

Headless Popa spurca alive after five hours!

Thomas, Positioning this half/male would simply be for the curiosity at this point since I'm not looking for a fertile ooth as raising a hoard of nymphs is out of my range right now.  If I change my mind, I do have a younger pair of Popas (at least Daisy hasn't gotten to him yet)! I had...

Headless Popa spurca alive after five hours!

Thomas, I enjoyed every one of the articles you dug up for me.  Explains a lot.  However, I don't think he can "find" her now as he can't smell her pheromones anymore without his head, right?  Or if they breath like a cockroach, do they pick up scents in all those pores too? I noticed tonight...

Help! What is my mated girl oozing?

Krissim Klaw, Typically, I usually get to my mantids about 8 AM to uncover their aquariums and turn on the white lights (heat lamps are on all night) , mist lightly, then get back to feed mid-morning.  Every other day, I give BB flies to everyone (some eat them, others don't (mainly the boys...

Thomas, not yet---busy day.  I just put a towel down about an hour ago so I'll know more tomorrow.
