    How to kill a virus?

Hi! A good program that can help you is good ole' MBAM from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Download this on a friends PC and put it on a USB drive. Then boot your PC in 'safe mode with network' and install the malwarebytes program to do the cleanup. You can boot into safe mode by pressing the...

Thesprotia graminis, I want info please

Back around 10 years ago (been that long since I moved away) I used to see the Chinese mantids quite often in the southern part of the state. Near Trumbull, Bridgeport, Stratford & Milford areas. The winters near the Long Island Sound were a little milder than you get up north. Maybe that...

    Candy jar houses

Well here is a thread that shows lots of good pics of what people are using. http://mantidforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9808 I use the plastic deli cups and some small (1 liter/quart) aquariums & critter keepers.

    Crickets in freezer/cricket size

I have both the small and the large versions of the containers. At one time I did have a lot of mantids and needed the big one. I've never actually seen a cricket be able to climb up to test the escape capabilities of those small gaps near the flaps. The outside of the tubes are too smooth...

    Crickets in freezer/cricket size

I don't keep as many mantids as some so I only get a dozen or two crickets at a time. I keep them in these types of containers. http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?fam...esultRedirect=1 The black tubes are good places for the crickets to 'hide' when the lights come on so they stay in there...

    Crickets Help!!!!!

+1 A starving cricket will try and chew on anything. Keep your feeders well fed and they will be less likely to be aggressive to the mantids.

    Like a leg of lamb!

Lol I did get knocked down by one of these when I was about 11. I was running through tall cattails and one swooped down and hit me smack in the middle of the forehead! I saw it at the last second and tried to stop but all that did was put me off balance and WHAM! Flat on my back.

Is there a good way to sex ghost mantid nymphs?

Along with the "thicker/wider" crown the females have noticeably shorter and thinner antenna than the males. Must be my eyes getting old but I couldn't count the segments on the abdomen of my ghosts until at least L4. ;)

    Wanted: Adult or SubAdult P.O.

Hi all. I just finished moving and my two male adult P.O. didn't make it but all of my other mantids did. I have 5 lonely adult female P.O. ready for their knight in shining armour to, um, perform! :P Please PM with any available for shipping in the US. Thanks!

housing them all at L3..eating each other?

Thanks! My first ooth. I'm a bit nervous about having this many. I was ok taking care of 3 ghosts from L2 but now 22 of them! When I have to separate them I'm gonna have a space problem on my shelf. I guess I should think about selling some off soon...

housing them all at L3..eating each other?

They are doing great! I think the total hatching from the 'small ooth' was 30. 8 casualties over the first 3 days but the rest seem to be holding out well. Not a bad showing from what we thought would be 10-15 hatching. They started taking down Hydei on day 2! I was very impressed. The ff...

housing them all at L3..eating each other?

LOL! Caught me off guard with that comment. I'm laughing at my desk and getting odd looks. Guess I shouldn't check the forums at work. I'll keep my eyes open for that tell-tale sign, Rebecca. I have 22 of them cute little P.O. that survived the hatching and are still at L1. I'm...

    Screen & mite paper

I've been having good luck with it so far. Still getting used to the timing with the fridge and feeding. Only had a couple of escapees. :P Think I need to cut the honey with a little water though. Every once in a while get one stuck in the goo.

HELP! Mantid Ootheca hatching, but what!!!

From the looks of them and you seeing wings on them I would say they are parasitic wasps. If the ooths were wild collected then it's not too uncommon to have a few parasitic wasps planted in there. If they are the wasps then get them out of the container before the mantids start hatching. I...

    Fruit flies get everywhere. Suggestions?

I think the small sized wingless ones are referring to the Melanogaster variety of fruitfly which is about half the size of the Hydei fruitflies. It is two different varieties of flies. The flightless Hydei have wings but can't seem to use them well enough to fly with.

    Mantisplace

I just received my second order from Rebecca. It was just feeder fruit & house flies but was amazingly packaged to get through the cold weather out here! The insulation and heat pack looked very professional. I will definitly keep coming back.

    Fruit flies get everywhere. Suggestions?

This sounds interesting but I think I want to try it with house fly pupae. Put a little honey and cricketquencher in the bottom and it would feed the flies and the flies could feed the mantids. Would this work for a 'vacation feeder'?
