    Hungry Mantis

Im shocked the motel didn't work! Try more yeast. Any squishy fruit and a bunch of yeast always gives me more flies then I can count inside an hour or 2. I don't even think I have a culture going. I think I just catch hundreds of flies in my neighborhood. Miami is hot & humid. I would think...

I will if I have to. They are sending an affidavit to sign and they may request I file a report. I work in law and see it all the time.

    Identity Theft

Went to the beach yesterday. Stopped by WalMart first to get sunblock and my credit card was no good. Called Visa. They wanted to know what I was doing in Philly spending $2,400 at Lowes when I live in Fla. I told them no idea, I haven't been there for weeks. They are taking off the charges and...

    Feeder insect trap

I watched a show on bees. When they hatch, their jobs are nursery care, hive upkeep, construction, and then cooling/guarding at the front. They have a predetermined number of wing flaps. Kind of like a countdown on life so that by the time they are out and about getting nectar, they are over the...

    Hello

Grice is coming out with a new book. Deadly Kingdom I don't think mantids will get another chapter. He does have excerpts you can read from his various chapters in his previous book although I think the one from the mantis chapter was a poor choice. http://deadlykingdom.com/ click on the link...

    Hungry Mantis

:D Baby mantids are hungry and a fast response is important. Id hate to be in Maxxxis's position trying to figure out how to feed 40 mouths. It's surprisingly hard to find good information with a google search on the subject. Maxxxix, you'll want to let a bunch of those go if they are native...

    Grammer / abv. question...

So instar = a developmental stage for an arthropod. Why is shorthand for the instar L1, L2, etc instead of I1, I2, etc??? Does the L stand for Level or is it just easier to see instead of I?

Forget crickets and forget buying fruit flys. go to walmart. in the pest area, you can find a fly motel. It will look just like this. buy a water mister if you dont already have one too. They don't die without food right away so don't stress. Also, buy some bananas. Browner is better. Also...

    my first ootheca

I ended up canceling the order since my previous ooth hatched out of nowhere. I have 10 I am caring for. 4 in a screen top and 6 in individual cups with little airflow but better access to fruit flys or so I thought. The 4 in the big container seem to have better luck as the fruit flies cluster...

    Guess The Ootheca

It pays to be prepared. I have 6 in individual cups and I stuck one of my fly motels with fruit flies inside the parent container. The fruit flies can go in and out of that thing so they should keep the rest happy. So these are Carolina Mantids?

    Guess The Ootheca

Ok, I counted 13. Most look great, only one is dieing. I figure Ill single out a few in those glad cups and keep the rest in that parent container. Drinking Container on the right is where I had the ooth

    my first ootheca

I ordered my first ootheca (chinese). Well 3 of them. (Im putting 2 outside) $10.00 shipped! Anyway, Im debating housing for nymphs. I have a 10 gallon with a tight fitting glass top and was thinking I could let them hatch in there and add a lot of fruit flies, and then when they hit the 3rd...

    Nymph food

I plan to. The ootheca I found must have been empty. Im going to buy one early May from Amazon or somebody here. I have fruit flies going but Ill try paperclip cat food too. I dont think he was trying to pierce a piece. It looked wet so he probably just dipped it in the cat food gravy and it a...

    Nymph food

I was doing some reading online on one of my favorite pet store websites and came across a neat article that suggests nymphs do well on cat food. Cat FOOD Has anybody tried this? Sounds convenient to do to get them to size up to small cricket/mealworm size.
