    Victoria Bug Zoo

Great specimens..i think you just need to practice focus with your camera a little, its quite easy to rush but if you take your time and review in the viewfinder you should get good results...i took some great macro shots on a recent trip using a Fuji J150,which at £100 currently is a snip! I...

    Mantis eats goldfish, again

Ok,i see the point but as we all know, its damn near impossible to feed mantis 'dead' prey, however,it is entirely possilble to do this with fish, reptiles and amphibians..fish and frog species become addicted very easily to certain food-types in captivity and become very difficult to wean off them...

    Mantis eats goldfish, again

There is absolutely no point in feeding live 'feeder' fish to reptiles/amphibians,not only is it cruel but the chances of passing disease are high as they are when you feed them to large species of fish such as Cichlids, which will always succumb to a diet of 'frozen' fish such as...

does feeding wasps/hornets/honey bees put mantis at risk?

Ive used bee's and other pollen feeding insects for years with no problems, although now with the decline of the bee's i wouldnt bother..however,i once fed a huge bee to one of my large mantids (a rhombodera sp..) and it stung the mantid directly in the mouth! There was a lot of mouth cleaning...

Rhombodera sp. (Malaysian Giant Shield Mantid) mating sequence

Hi all These pics were taken approximately 4 months ago when I matured a pair of said species, with a Nikon D40 SLR with standard 18-55 mm lens (I now own a D80) and a lot of patience. Sadly I fell asleep and the female ate the male, and so far has produced 6 fertile ootheca resulting in many...

    enclosures and double sided tape..

Aquarium silicone sealer is also as safe as houses,i prefer this to the glue gun method as im not too sure about the glue leaching toxins when exposed to (sprayed) water..
