    name my mantid

How about Bob. That way if it gets confused and spells his name backwards, he does not look dumb :P

    pet rats

My rats had a litter a few weeks ago and we might be looking to get rid of a couple of them. If anyone is interested in a free pet rat (NOT FOR FEEDING OTHER ANIMIALS) and lives in between Detroit and Grand Rapids Michigan area, please let me know. They are very cute black and white rats about...

    I got lucky

I made a dumb mistake three days ago. I did not shut the lid on one of my cages all the way. I am usually pretty careful about doing this, but I was very tired and I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention to it. So needless to say, one of my Bud Wing Mantids got out. When I got up in the...

    small canisters for nymphs

You could always drill some small holes in the top. For the price I think it is a great deal plus it displays well.

    small canisters for nymphs

I got a few of these the other day and thought they would work to house some of my nymphs in. Thought I would share my find. Tray-O-Vials Big clear-plastic vials, 5-1/16" tall x 2-1/16" dia. You get (6) of them nestled into depressions in a 9" X 9" X 9" triangular white-plastic tray/holder, in...

    feeding snakes

The hard part is letting the go back into the wild after you have spent all that time taking care of them and nursing them back into good health. It is very rewarding though

    feeding snakes

Generally the only animals we take from the wild are injured animials. If you are refering to the snake, his home is over 200 miles away from mine and our intention is to release him back into the wild next time we go and visit. As for other animals I mentioned, my wife is a Vet Technician...

    feeding snakes

My brother in law was fishing one day and he came accross a corn snake and thought my kids would like it. Of course they did, but they were not too keen on feeding it so Dad has to. Anyway, I have been feeding it live baby pink mice. It bothered me a little, but I understand that is what they...

    Butterfly's Mantids

My kids and myself also like when they mantids crawl on us. I even posted some pictures of a Chinese mantis crawling on their faces last week. :)

    my kids and their mantids

Ogiga said "I'm too scared that the kids would squish the mantis." You don't know my kids, they are the biggest nature freaks in the world. You give them a forest and they will find any bug you can immagine. In fact my son just brought me home a L1 or L2 Chinese Mantid(I think) that he caught...

    my kids and their mantids

The mantid just finished eating and to date he has never struck or tired to bite any of us. My son thought he was a butterfly and tried to pollonate our flowers eairlier today and it stained his face.

    new cage

Doesn't everyone have three arms. One to hold the door open and the other two to feed and clean the mantids OK, I see the design flaw and I appreciate the input. I will post a new design when I get the chance. I really want to thank everyone for your help.

    new cage

I really do appreciate all of the comments. I am trying make the perfect mantid cage and I cannot think of anywhere better to get feedback about them from. As for the door, I did have the door open that way to take advantage of gravity. If you look closely, you will not see any traditional...

    new cage

Well I have been busy working a ton of crazy hours and not had too much time to play but here is my newest creation. I took a suggestion from Yen and came up with this design. It has an opening on the side rather than on on the top. Let me know what you think. Right now, I am only making a...

    Glass vs. Plastic

I am fairly new to the mantid scene, but I perfer to us acrylic. I have a wide variety of bugs and other critters and I find that acrylic is easy to clean up. Another nice thing about acrylic is that if you drop it, it won't shatter into a million pieces that can cut you or your kids. I have...
