    Ghost mantis mating question

How long do I have to wait before mating the males again? A week? The first female laid an inch long ooth a few minutes ago, pretty expected since she's really small for a female. Hopefully my other pair mated, but I only saw a very short connection and had to sleep. How many ooths can a ghost...

    Ghost mantis mating question

There was a pale white flake stuck to her abdomen earlier, it looked chewed on, was this the sack partially eaten? Her abdomen closed up and returned to normal after I noticed this. (And yay! My other pair are currently mounted, this male is also young at about 4-5 days!)

    Ghost mantis mating question

Ok cool, do you usually see the sack come out? How long after mating does it usually come out? She could have disposed of it while I was sleeping but this morning her abdomen is still slightly open.

    Ghost mantis mating question

It lasted about two hours and the male finally dismounted, and the female has been doing some funky stuff with her abdomen parts since.

    Ghost mantis mating question

They've made a second connection! This time it's lasted about 40 minutes and they're still going, hopefully this will be a successful fertilization but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try again in a couple weeks.

    Ghost mantis mating question

Thanks, I was surprised the male was even interested, but I'm not too worried if it was an unsucessful mating, they should still have plenty of time. I am getting a little worried about the females producing their first ooths though. The male is still mounted on the female by the way, should I...

    Ghost mantis mating question

My two males finally molted to adult the other week, and my females have been adult for about 3-4 weeks. Out of curiousity I Iet out my oldest female and a male (Who had just molted a mere 3 days ago!) and to my surprise he mounted her rather quickly. Several hours after mounting, after many...

Ghost mantis female calling, ready to mate?

It's been 1.5 weeks since she molted to adult and she's calling. Does this mean she's ready to mate? Generally I hear you have to wait 3-4 weeks before mating a ghost female so I figured this is a bit early, but I don't know much about calling. My males are still sub-adult and aren't showing...

Where do you propose you'll get them?

    New Leopard Gecko

About the mealworms chewing through stomachs, that's a myth, a BIG myth. Probably spread by misinformed pet stores, and I've heard it probably originated from someone feeding a sick or dying gecko mealworms. A healthy gecko will crunch the mealworms straight away, and if that doesn't kill them...

    New Leopard Gecko

Nice info, I really didn't know about the grit, that's the first time I've ever heard about that! Is that really true? Since in a way I'm a little bit wary of it! Also, do you know if it is normal for an adult female to eat one large male dubia every 2 weeks or so? She's active and retains a...

    New Leopard Gecko

The ones I've had always ate very well as juvies. Babies should most certainly eat every day as well. I rarely see mine drink either, but I do see her drink. Try dipping your finger in some water and tapping his nose, since leopards usually lick when you do this it should lap up water if it...

    New Leopard Gecko

Looks good, do you see him eat? Also...are you sure that's a 10 gallon tank? Looks more like a 5 gallon. I have my adult female in a 10 gallon and it's just enough room.

    freaks mate, ID help please

Male on the left, female on the right. AKA march flies, they rise in groups, mate, lay eggs, and die. I belive the larvae are subterrarian and feed off grass roots. Bibio xanthopus or fraternus.

Egg hatching, newbie...when to separate mantids?

Any idea what species the ooths are? I'd guess they're ok having been through that humidity, but I'd definately aim for at least 40%-60% right about now. Try to get 2-4 goods mistings a week. As for seperating the nymphs, I'm not entirely sure about that either, but I'd say by L3 (3 molts) they...

    GreenOasis

A bit late, sorry! :) Recieved a great amount of melanogaster as well as some 32 oz containers, everything came in great. She also left a note, instead of regular winged mels she gave me the slightly more expensive wingless since she didn't have anymore winged!

    New Leopard Gecko

Eh, they can, most insectivores do and the meatier the foods they consume they stinkier the poop tends to be. The lizards themselves don't smell at all. Leopard geckos for instance, don't smell unless you don't clean their enclosure for a good few weeks, even then you have to stick your nose in...

    Canned mealworms

Huh? lol, I didn't mention flies being bad in my post anywhere, I love them, it's just like the OP seems like he has a larger species of mantis (Chinese? He still never mentioned the sp.) which would be a bit harder to fill up on flies. Between crickets, mealworms, and roaches, crickets are his...

    Canned mealworms

I think you need to read through my post again. I'm not sure what species of mantid you have, but you don't need to bother with flies if they are a large species. Though crickets have gotten a bad rap, they aren't THAT bad. If I had nothing but mealworms and crickets to feed my mantids, I'd...
