    Mantis Connection INC (Cheryl DeWitt)

I ordered 3 nymphs from Cheryl and received 5(very kind and generous of her) that were very well packaged, healthy specimens and still munching on the fruit flies she provided them for their journey. I live in a state nearby and weather has been decent the past few weeks, so I chose priority...

    Hierodula venosa

My H. Venosa's do this as well! :)  Especially when i remove the lid from the enclosure and they are on it or i put them on the yucca for some free-roam time and they see me walk by; they will dart under the leaf and lay flat. LOL. They are quite the characters at times!  :P

Mantis Hobby interferes with Family Life Support Group

Agreed! I wonder what my work would think if i started bringing my mantids in? "Sorry boss... 28 hour mating streak and i gotta make sure my male doesn't end up as a snack when they're done!"

Mantis Hobby interferes with Family Life Support Group

Thanks @dmina for bringing this thread back to life! Lol! This was too funny to read through!    Hi, my name is Dano. (Danielle) I am a Mantidaholic. It all started in the garden one day and i was so feeling overwhelmed with pests so i thought i would "try mantids." I was told they would...

    Behavior of Mantids...

Thank you! She is indeed a sweet and cute girl! I wish my camera could capture all her colors! Her raptors are a beautiful pink with brown speckles!  :tt1:  What strange colouring for a Budwing!  Rey is the same way as yours are as well. She likes to hang out with me more than my sons. (Hubby...

    Behavior of Mantids...

Aha! That explains it then. My son kept peeking over my shoulder and she would see him and do one of those poses. After a few seconds she would "relax" again and start to groom or go back to typical mantid posture. I also changed her enclosure today cause she seemed to be having trouble gripping...

    Behavior of Mantids...

This evening I noticed one of our larger Budwings (P. Agrionina) kept tapping on her lid and pacing the cage. I fed her a fly and she STILL kept doing this! I kinda got worried cause i didn't want her to stress herself out, so i got her out of her enclosure. As a typical child wanting out of...

What excelsior do you use? (FF cultures)

LOL!!! Been there...done that! I just recently made a new culture using "cotton balls" and a new container method (parmesan cheese container) for my melos and i was ready to ditch the whole thing cause i noticed some had died at the media and i knew my media wasn't wet, a gas chamber, etc...but...

    Hi Everyone

Glad to have you here! Sad to hear that the UK forums are closed; but the more the merrier as they say- so we welcome you!  :D   I agree with @dmina also, you can't have just one or a few after awhile!  :surrender:  Lol.

New to mantids but not not new to proper pet keeping

Welcome to the world of Mantis keeping! This hobby can be quite addicting! We started off with just a few...said thats all we wanted. HA! 12 species later we love every one of them. As a previous poster stated, some will perish as nymphs as they are cannibalistic and it is always sad to see a...

What excelsior do you use? (FF cultures)

I've been using coffee filters as of lately, but have been wanting to try something different as well. Not because i had any issues...but maybe just boredom or preference on my part, lol. I fold mine into "pie shaped" pieces and smoosh em down into the media. So far- it has been well! For both...

    kllinke

I ordered my first P. Agrionina's from Karrie back in April. It was cold then, and she shipped them all snug and excellent in their box. They arrived within 2 days and were still warm! One of my Budwings had molted in transit and he was perfectly fine- so you know she had them packaged well.  ;)...

    Mantis Monarch

I bought a H. Venosa and a Ghost Mantis from Mantis Monarch. He was super helpful and friendly in all his responses from negotiating terms to delivering information. You can tell that he puts alot of time, hard work and love (dedication) into breeding and making sure Mantids arrive safely. When...

    H. Venosa bent leg (mismolt?)

Thank you Cosby for your reply! That is very reassuring that she will be alright within the next few molts. :)  I gave her a bit of honey earlier (for a treat and a mood lifter lol) and she let me hold her as well. She gets around unbelievably better than what i imagined she might with her peg...

    H. Venosa bent leg (mismolt?)

Hi all, i have H. Venosa that molted to an L4/L5 this morning. I went to give her a daily mist and noticed she has a leg that is bent backwards and up. She is able to still crawl around a bit, but will this be permanent til she molts again or will it be like this forever? And as far as feeding...

    Chinese Mantis Group Enclosure?

Chinese Mantises in one enclosure together will most definitely exhibit cannibalism as an adult. Even keeping them well fed. lol. In my personal experience of keeping them and other species, they are one of the more aggressive eaters and will attack others.  I REALLY love your idea though of...

Orchid Mantis Loves Honey! (L5 female)

Aww this is a really sweet photo!   I love how gentle she appears and she must feel really safe to be able to do this. Thanks for posting and sharing about Sybil. She's beautiful!

Should I let my adult male ghost fly?

I've often wondered this myself too. Whether or not it may harm them to not let them fly or "exercise." But out of fear of not wanting them to end up in a place i may not be able to get to or get hurt, i have limited fly time to times where i will be right there with them.  Think of exotic...
