    Gas station mantis

Hey! This is great! My daughter found one of those when we went to Fire Island last week (in NYS, off the coast of Long Island). I wasn't sure either about what species it was, since you normally just find Chinese there....It is a really pretty species.

Need to replace some murder victims

 So I lost three mantids today because someone put the cages in direct sun and cooked them. I am now looking for an adult pair of E. macrops (I had an adult male and a-day-or-two-from-molt subadult female). Can anyone help out? US only - I don't import.

    That's my.....leg

Yep - I've noticed they'll drop and actually spit out what they've bitten off of fireflies. Too bad, as they're so easy to keep....and the idea of a glowing mantid is just too cool (I KNOW that wouldn't happen, but it's a great image). Oh, well.

Want to buy one of the following ooths...

Hi all, I've decided to treat myself (late b-day present to myself). I did a little looking around...and have come up with a list of mantids I would like to try. I'm not sure if some of these are even available in the US, but I know I've seen some of these offered in the past. If anyone has...

    My Miniature CP Terrarium

You know, it bugs me (no pun intended....ok, ye there was) that flytraps come in humidity domes. They're native to a small stretch of bogland near Willmington, NC. Yes, summers ARE humid....but it's by no means a requiremen. Moist soil, on the other hand, is. They can live through bried dry...

Having trouble choosing a new species

So I'm looking to get an ooth for a new species....but I can't decide which one to persue! I haven't done that many species yet - so you can suggest anything (even if I've kept it before, doesn't matter). I prefer larger species (4" +), but you certainly get points for being super...

    My Miniature CP Terrarium

This will work for the short term (2 years, maybe a little longer), but if you don't allow the VFT and Sar to go dormant, they will eventually wither and die of exhaustion. You don't have to worry about the nep, and any of the othe tropicals. If the pulchella is going dormant on it's own, I...

    My Miniature CP Terrarium

Great looking set up. What do you do about dormancy requirements for the temperate plants? The VFT's and Sarracenia - do you take them out for a three month nap each year? If so, do you have them potted, but the pots burried? Otherwise, the neps and dews look great!

    lemmiwinks (US)

Got an adult male ghost today from Lemmi. Perfect health, great packing job. Package even arrived a day early. Fantastic!

    gutted

That would have been much easier to read with some puctuation. But, if I was able to understand your post correctly, you just got hosed. That stinks! I would contact the supplier for a refund/restock.

    Need a ghost boy.....

<_< PRETTY sure at least....either it was an accident...or she did a pretty good acting job. You that other one that was injured? He ate MORE of his own legs over the next several days....then eventually kicked the bucket. That one wasn't right in the head....

    Need a ghost boy.....

So I brought out my sub-adult for a feed this morning....he must have been a day or two away from his last shed - not too interested in eating...and it's been a while. I was psyched - my adult female just oothed her first time...I mean, he missed the boat for that one, but at least I know...

    seriously close call

Grrrr.... now she's not eating. I got her to take some honey, but she won't strike at bugs! What gives?
  16. S

    That's weird

Rick! You've stumbled upon the very rare Takeru-Kobayashi mantis! What a find! They're known to try and catch things way outside they're ability to eat....this one must have been trying to chew on your leg....

    seriously close call

My female ghost fell durring her last molt! Luckily I founder her what must have been minutes afterwards, as I was able to rescue her. Her wings have even developed normally (at least it looks that way). Looks like something must have knocked her shed skin off the perch....and she was hanging...
