nypmhs shedding to adult! Whoo hoo!

Ok - so now the next one shed - to SUB adult! Now I'm worried the male is going to die of old age before there is a female ready to mate! I hope they hurry up...maybe I should move the females somewhere warmer, and keep the male where he is?

devils flower mantis??does anyone breed these?

Mass, jedem is every, if I recall my college German well enough....so "there are idiots in every land (country)"

    Some photos again, unusual Gongy:)

Makes sense that misting would bring out green. Humidity may translate into lusher folliage, so green is better camo, while drier conditions trigger brown to camo with the dead folliage.

What praying mantises don't fight or eat eachother?

Well, not punctuation! LOL! Sorry, had to... All kidding asside, I image you just kept them really well fed? Most predators won't risk attacking large (i.e. can hurt them back) prey if they're reasonably well fed. I used to do the same thing with Chinese mantids as a kid....I kept 10 or so...

What praying mantises don't fight or eat eachother?

I am currently housing six ghosts (Phyllocrania paradoxa) together....almost right on top of one another, and no problems. They CLIMB on each other sometimes. I keep them reasonable well fed, but they're not fat cats....so I surely reccomend this one as a colony critter. There is a 7th that I...

nypmhs shedding to adult! Whoo hoo!

So here we are....9 days later...and the only subsequent molt was the "runt" I had to move to another cage. That one was obviously just one instar behind the rest. None of the others have shed yet, darn it!. They're eating like pigs, at least....poor crickets  Am I just impatient?

nypmhs shedding to adult! Whoo hoo!

So I was pretty psyched yesterday when the first of my seven Ghost nyphms earned his wings (I think it's male)! I happened by towards the end of the shed, just as he was extricating his two back legs....but the wings were still all rumpled up....I got to watch over the next couple of hours as...

    Selling my extra gongys!!

Hey guys... I just started reading this thread....what a drag. As far as going after him with the law enforcement, though... Aren't the species here non-native, and technically dis-allowed? Wouldn't be like telling the cops that you gave someone $200, but the gave you 2 oz. of Oregano? Man...

    mis molt question

Well, the nymph is still eating greedily, and one of it's brothers or sister (haven't sexed either one yet...still way small) just shed....So I should know shortly! For those wondering, it's not the whole limb that's messed up...just the part below the "elbow." But (s)he still can't use it. I...

    mis molt question

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll have to look and see if it has "cleaned" off the old, mis-molted skin. Either way, the arm is currently not useable....just sort of sits there. It sure doesn't seem to have trouble catching stuff one handed, though. I am keeping it in a fairly small...

    mis molt question

Hey All, Quick question: One of my (now l3) shield nymphs had a minor mishap with molting. It looks like the old skin never came off of one of the claws - and it can't use that claw right now. So the otherwise healthy little tyke is hunting one handed. At any rate, should I snip off the...

    Straight from the horses mouth

The whole mantids v/s spiders thing sure is odd. However I bet it has more to do with what happened to be in the spotlight at the time than with any real logic behind it. If you keep spiders, just be HAPPY they didn't apply in progression of logic in their decisions.... As far as the getting...
