    This is insane

Did you use fumigator or something like that? Are there any plantations near your house that could have been sprayed with insecticide?

Solygia is stunning! Is she next-to-last instar on your previous photos, or subadult already?

Rick, what species of cicada was it?

Thanks, I've never seen mantids do so.

Morph, has that fly been gutloaded with honey before being fed to the mantis?

    WC Ooth

I had the same problem with two Hierodula transcaucasica WC oothecas. About 10 wasps came out of each, but then about 40 nymphs totally hatched. That's why I think that parasitic wasps infect not all eggs in the ooth, and maybe it's better to wait for a few weeks.

    Therea petiveriana

European mantid poses and other mantids also

Isn't it Deroplatys dessicata nymph? Joe, thank you! Can you post more photos of Tamolanica tamolana (huge brown one with wide pronotum, under Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii)?

    Yes, mine also hatched brown.

    Sunlight?

In my opinion, mantids do need sunlight or, when in winter-time, ultraviolet lamps using for reptiles, like 'Repti-Glo'. I raised several generations of some species (Hierodula transcaucasica, H. grandis/membranacea, Mantis religosa) without UV, and in each case the winter generation, which...

I see. Thank you for the information.

    Rhombodera basalis

Yes, very unusual. I like this morph too. In my opinion, R.basalis change their green colour to some another not so easy as Hierodulas do. Please take photo when she'll turn to adult!

    Safe se.. mating

Do male recognize her with such collar?! I thought that they must see the complete silhouette to identify a member of the same species. Nevertheless, maybe the female expressed agression just because she was not ready for mating? Did she demonstrate calling behaviour earlier (i.e. bent the end...

    My mantis

Hi! May I ask you to post more photos of Sphodromantis sp. Cyprus, nymphs and adults, possibly placed on a ruler to see their actual size? I surmise that it is S.viridis, because of three white spots on raptorial arms' coxae.

    Rearing dragon flies

Easier to place the container on window-sill and lean sticks to the screen. After climbing the stick nymph will pass some way on the net and stop about half of window height. This method works good for Aeschna grandis, who can molt on vertical surface, but not for A.cyanea, which need to hang...

    Rearing dragon flies

I've wathched their final molt many times, mostly Aeschna grandis and A.cyanea. Morpheus UK, Aeschna larvae feel themselves much more comfortable when sitting on dark branches put into the water, about the same thickness as larvae is, with wich they can fit on using their elongated shape and...

    What forum skin?

For me it is sad to hear about deleting 'Board Pro' skin, first because of it's traditional book-looking appearance in black and white, second I got used of it since the old version of forum.

    M. religiosa diapause/breeding 2009 season

One more M.religiosa ooth layed on 25.03 hatched today. It was incubated in a fridge at +3C. Hatch rate is obviously lower than of previous ones, only about 20 came out. I think it's because this ooth was next-to-last the female had produced.
